Regional weekend has concluded, and now it's on to the 2-game Semi-State round. This is the second consecutive year where there was a single Regional game for each team, with this coming weekend's Semi-State requiring two wins in a day to make it to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for February 24th's State Finals. While brief, below is a look at the two Class 1A Semi-State sites...one in the North and one in the South. All player statistics below have been pulled from each school's MaxPreps page, so if your stats are not represented here, your team's MaxPreps page has not been updated by your coach/school. All team rankings below are provided by the updated Sagarin Ratings.

Game #1: Union City (14-12) vs. Clinton Central (24-1), 10:00 a.m. ET

Preview: Union City has put together a nice little postseason run, led by Belgian foreign exchange student Luane Schoonbroodt (17.2p, 9.7r, 2.9a, 4.5s), a 5-10 Senior forward. She has stepped in and played with great versatility and productivity. Senior Camryn Fischer (9.6p, 5.8r) has improved tremendously this season and gives them another interior presence, while Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='570378' first='Oaklee' last='Reichard'] (9.0p, 5.2r, 2.2a, 1.9s in 9 games) returned quickly enough from a knee injury...in time for the end of the season and the postseason run. Unfortunately, they now have to take on 24-1 Clinton Central. The Bulldogs have it rolling, and it's hard to imagine them falling apart in this game. Senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='455946' first='Sara' last='Parkison'] (17.8p, 6.6r, 2.2a, 2.2s) does a lot of everything for the Bulldogs, and she will be tough for Union City to defend inside. Fellow Senior Erika Robbins (11.3p, 2.6r, 2.0a, 1.5s) is another hard-working player who does a little of everything skillfully around the perimeter. Sophomore point guard [player_tooltip player_id='486527' first='Carly' last='Davison'] (12.4p, 4.8r, 8.2a, 2.6s) is a dynamic playmaker who doesn't get rattled during clutch time. She can shoot/score or distribute. Sophomore Emily Long (5.6p, 4.0r, 1.3s) and Senior Kortney Surber (5.3p, 5.3r, 1.8a, 1.3s) round out the core of the Clinton Central rotation. Our Pick: Clinton Central, 57-41.

Game #2: Caston (22-3) vs. Marquette Catholic (22-4), 12:00 p.m. ET

Preview: This could and should be a colossal Class 1A matchup. On one hand, you have Caston...a Senior-led group with nice skill and experience. On the other hand, you have Marquette Catholic...a tall, athletic, talented group of non-Seniors, led by a backcourt of a Sophomore and Freshman. Caston is led by Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='239357' first='Isabel' last='Scales'] (15.3p, 8.8r, 3.7a, 4.0s), [player_tooltip player_id='874149' first='Addison' last='Zimpleman'] (14.1p, 5.5r, 1.8a, 2.8s), and Macee Hinderlider (5.0p, 3.9r, 1.8a, 2.1s). Scales is a talented, versatile, tough-nosed wing who does a little of everything. Zimpleman is a nice all-around athlete and a Division-I softball recruit. Also consider Freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id='890801' first='Madisyn' last='Douglass'] (9.6p, 2.4r, 2.7a, 3.8s), who put together a standout rookie season for the Comets. For Marquette Catholic, Sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='486528' first='Laniah' last='Davis'] (19.3p, 6.0r, 2.9a, 3.3s) is a powerful, athletic, aggressive scorer who can get to the rim. Freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id='751101' first='Marissa' last='Pleasant'] (10.4p, 2.8r, 1.7a, 1.8s) has been an outstanding sidekick to Davis, while Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='331799' first='Jiselle' last='Chabes'] (4.7p, 2.6r, 2.8a, 1.7s) is a very good shooter who can also run offense and find teammates. From there, 6-0 Juniors [player_tooltip player_id='324083' first='Natalie' last='Robinson'] (7.5p, 6.0r, 1.6a, 2.8s) and Livia Balling (6.4p, 6.1r, 1.0a, 1.9s) bring length, athleticism, and rebounding to the frontcourt. Our Pick: Marquette Catholic, 45-38.

Game #1: Jac-Cen-Del (21-5) vs. Lanesville (26-1), 10:00 a.m. ET

Preview: This matchup could be another back & forth game, as Jac-Cen-Del and Lanesville are both led by veteran rotations. Jac-Cen-Del fell to Lanesville, 45-21, in the Semi-State finale a year ago. Lanesville has since graduated a couple of key 2023s, but they remain strong. I would look for this to be a much more competitive game this time around. For JCD, Senior [player_tooltip player_id='572809' first='Julia' last='Meyer'] (14.5p, 8.2r, 2.3a, 1.5s) has really stepped up this year and can score, rebound, or run offense. Classmate [player_tooltip player_id='625088' first='Reagan' last='Hughes'] (11.9p, 2.8r, 1.5a, 2.0s) is a dangerous perimeter shooter. Kaylin Hinners (5.5p, 5.3r, 1.8a, 1.6s) is a third Senior who helps in the paint, while Junior Sophia Sullivan (6.2p, 3.0r, 1.2a, 2.5s) adds depth on the perimeter. That 2023 class for Lanesville has handed the torch down to their 2025 class, which looks to lead them back to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. [player_tooltip player_id='295760' first='Hadley' last='Crosier'] (15.2p, 4.9r, 4.1a, 4.1s) tops their list of Juniors, and she is a skillful, versatile combo guard. Post [player_tooltip player_id='880516' first='Shelby' last='Allen'] (11.3p, 6.5r, 1.0a) and wing [player_tooltip player_id='324067' first='Hylton' last='Brumley'] (8.9p, 3.0r, 2.2a, 1.8s) are two other key Juniors for the Eagles, while Ava Kerr (10.3p, 4.9r, 2.6a, 2.7s), Elle Schneider (5.7p, 2.4r, 1.5a, 1.0s), Jane Davis (5.7p, 2.3r, 1.5a, 1.9s), and Emma Davis (4.4p, 2.3r, 1.0a, 1.6s) make up a solid Senior group for Lanesville. Our Pick: Lanesville, 52-45.

Game #2: North Central-Farmersburg (18-10) vs. Wood Memorial (16-10), 12:00 p.m. ET

Preview: I'm not really sure what to think of this game. North Central likes to shoot the 3-pointer, they can play fast at times, and they have a nice mix of Seniors and Juniors on the perimeter. Wood Memorial has typically been a sum-of-their-parts type of team. They are led by a Senior and a Junior, but they also have a few youngsters filling key roles in their rotation. The Thunderbirds of North Central get a lot of production out of Juniors [player_tooltip player_id='366798' first='Jalyn' last='Davidson'] (17.9p, 3.3r, 6.1a, 3.4s) and [player_tooltip player_id='1122822' first='Shelby' last='Seay'] (12.6p, 4.4r, 4.4a, 3.7s). Fellow Junior Samantha Secrest (6.8p, 5.4r, 1.4a, 1.9s), plus Seniors Kimber Ladson (7.5p, 2.1r) and Lilli Gaines (5.1p, 3.5r, 1.1s) make up the core of their rotation. Wood Memorial is led by Junior forward Kate Sevier (12.7p, 5.2r, 1.0a, 1.8s) and Senior wing Josie Page (10.0p, 3.5r, 2.5a, 2.2s). The two offer a nice inside-out combination, but both play with versatility as individuals as well. Trojans won a State title in 2017, while North Central just won their first Regional title. Our Pick: Wood Memorial, 45-44.
