Christ Chapel guard Zaria Gaskins Zaria Gaskins 5’5″ | PG Christ Chapel Academy | 2025 State VA led her team to a 3-0 week. Zaria is having an excellent Junior year and had her finest performance on Monday against Fredericksburg Christian. She scored 42 points and 11 rebounds in a one-point win. Zaria knocked down three threes and lived at the foul line. Zaria played a big part in Christ Chapel’s other two wins on the week, and she is one of the best scorers in the state for the 2025 class.
Alysa Carrigan Alysa Carrigan 5’11” | SF Tuscarora | 2024 State VA was outstanding again this week, and if I had to pick the best defensive player I’ve watched this year, it would be Alysa. Tuscarora went 2-0 this week, and Alysa Carrigan Alysa Carrigan 5’11” | SF Tuscarora | 2024 State VA led them in almost every category. In Tusky’s first game against Dominion, Alysa had 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 steals. Then, in a competitive, low-scoring game against Heritage, Alysa flirted with a quadruple-double. She finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists, and 7 steals—another week of high-level basketball from one of the best two-way players in the area.
Highlights
I checked out Bishop McNamara’s game at PVI, and Vanessa Harris had a nice game. Bishop McNamara trapped PVI, and Vanessa’s athleticism helped force PVI into turnovers. Vanessa knocked down a couple of jumpers and made some nice passes off her drives. It was a nice performance and a decisive win for Bishop McNamara.
Brianna Long Brianna Long 5’8″ | SF Colgan | 2024 State VA is, pound for pound, one of the best rebounders in NOVA, and she had an outstanding week. In Colgan’s first game of the week against Gar-Field, Brianna had a big double-double, scoring 16 points and collecting 14 rebounds in a 40-point rout. Her most impressive game of the week was in an 8-point victory over Woodbridge. Brianna had an efficient 25 points to go with her 13 rebounds, 9 being on the offensive glass. What Brianna does on the offensive glass is terrific, especially not being extremely tall.
Ellie Friesen opened the week with 17 points in an overtime win over Brentsville. She followed that up with a big game in a 25-point win over Liberty. Ellie had a great shooting night, knocking down 6 threes and finishing with 24 points. She finished her week with 14 points in a low-scoring 2-point win over Heritage. Ellie is a terrific shooter and the leading scorer on an underrated Meridian squad.

Sarah Pritz Sarah Pritz 5’11” | SF Lake Braddock | 2024 State VA had another excellent week for Lake Braddock. Lake Braddock played a super low-scoring game against Woodson. This game saw a combined 57 points, so the 12 points Sarah scored went a long way. Then, against Alexandria City, Sarah scored a career-high 30 points in a nearly 30-point Lake Braddock Victory. Lake Braddock has been playing well recently, and Sarah Pritz Sarah Pritz 5’11” | SF Lake Braddock | 2024 State VA has played a massive part.
