Kennedy showed why she was the Concorde district player of the year and finished with a team-high 22 points.
One of the only Centreville players with a good first half was Sofia Caraus Sofia Caraus 5’9″ | SG Centreville | 2026 State VA . Gainesville had a tough night shooting the three, especially Madison McKenzie Madison McKenzie 5’7″ | CG Gainesville | 2024 State VA , who couldn’t buy one from three all game. Centreville let Gainesville shoot all day by design of their zone, and Gainesville just couldn’t knock shots down. Ella Nhek was one of the only players with a good game as a jump shooter for Gainesville. She hit two first-half threes, and when Centreville ran her off the line, she did well putting the ball on the floor and hitting mid-rangers. She finished with 10 points to go along with her solid ball handling.
If there was one Achilles’ heel for this Centreville squad, it’s their lack of size, especially when their 5 best players that typically close the game are not bigs. Centreville stayed in a zone to counter Gainesville’s size, but it didn’t matter. Peyton White Peyton White 6’0″ | C Gainesville HS | 2026 State VA dominated them in the paint. She had several lay-ins and dominated the offensive glass. She finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
As good of a player Lanie Grant Lanie Grant 5’9″ | PG James River HS | 2024 State VA is, and how spectacular her numbers have been this year, her play against Stone Bridge was special even for her standards. Maureen Tremblay Maureen Tremblay 6’0″ | PF Meridian | 2024 State VA is getting a little more recognition over the past few weeks. She played another great game in Meridian’s win over Lafayette. Maureen led her team in points with 15. Maureen is not inept as a scorer by any means, but her passing and rebounding are what really push this Meridian team. She had 10 rebounds and 6 assists to go with her 15 points.
