When I first started watching girl's basketball, I used to catch freshmen, JV, and Varsity games because I could usually find competitive players on each squad, but the final score wasn't important to me. I always say "No one can tell me anything about this stuff that's relevant" and they can't because what's RELEVANT to me is observing PROGRESSION and that POTENTIAL to go on to play at some level of the next level, either you get it or you don't

I caught plenty of players in the freshman game between C.E. King and Summer Creek that have POTENTIAL and I'll be watching their PROGRESSION

C.E. KING

Jaida Anclar

Anclar did a good job of positioning by using her frame to rebound on both ends of the court. I also liked her timing, as well as movement on the defensive ed

Colony Hinson

Hinson has some serious upside because she is "long and athletic" which is the base and she goes after the ball off the rim. Her first step to attack the rim is nice and she not only played the passing lane, she handled the ball afterward

Helakyn Sprouse

Sprouse falls into that #sizedointmatter group I love to hashtag because she's fearless and can play. She does a good job of defending "on the ball" as well as handling the ball while being pressured to attack the basket

Camarra Bennett

Bennett was "IN IT" on the defensive end and seemed to enjoy bringing heat baseline to baseline, which is always a good sign yet she's an athletic guard who uses her athleticism on both ends of the court

Unestay Williams

Williams was another player who used her frame around the basket not only to rebound but her get her shot off. She also did a good job defensively

[player_tooltip player_id='1226105' first='Tomeah' last='Williams']

Williams is an athletic guard who defended in the set yet she also plays within herself and showed good court vision

Isabella "Izzy" DeLaCruz

DeLaCruz will be "cruising" upward because she's 6'3 and that old saying I don't like to use, "you can't teach height" definitely applies. She will make her CLUB SEASON debut this year, she has previously played at the Y yet WHY none of the self-promoters were looking at places I used to find hidden gems is beyond me. She moves well around the basket, her hands and footwork are nice and so is her UPSIDE

Summer Creek

Kennedy Gourad

Gourad put on a shooting exhibition in front of me at the We Got Next event last year so I knew she could drop it while being defended from mid to long-range. Her "on the ball" pressure was solid, and so was her diving on the floor for loose balls, but she also showed timing to block shots as well as play the passing lane. Her setting the defender up to attack and finish was also a plus

Aaron Newsome

Newsome is "long and athletic" and yep, that is still the base yet her energy level on both ends had me smiling as she too dove on the floor as well as in the stands for loose balls. Her timing is solid, she plays the passing lane as well as defense baseline to baseline and in the set

Peyton Mohammed

Mohammed is a "long and athletic" guard who understands and uses her athleticism on both ends of the court. Her defensive pressure was smothering at times, her first step to get to the basket and score is solid, and so is her creating her shot from outside and dropping it

Kyri Brown

Brown is another "long and athletic" player who is showing signs and just her understanding of how to get the break going with an outlet passes gets her the #THROWBACK hashtag. Little things like that will turn out big but she also maneuvered well in the paint to score and did a good job rebounding, on both ends

Madison Mohammed

Mohammed, like her twin sister, is a "long and athletic" guard but her explosiveness off the dribble was nice, especially since she attacked with either hand to finish. Nice body control after contact, and solid court vision and she played the passing lane as well and defended strongly
