Continue ReadingAs we continue to look at the field of 4 for the private school classification, let’s take a look at the DII-AA division. Friday night saw an impressive slate of games filled with some talented girls on the hardwood. With their eyes set on punching their ticket to Cookeville, there were all out battles to try and snatch one of the final four spots. Girls laid it all out on the line as kids went toe to toe each possession.
Here is a recap of what transpired Friday night across the state in the DII-AA classification.
Webb BB 41
Father Ryan 33
Well, I guess it doesn’t matter what classification, the Lady Feet have a stellar program on their hands. They are final 4 bound for the first time in their first year in the DII-AA division. Led by international star Daria Biryk Daria Biryk 5'10" | SG Webb- Bell Buckle | 2025 State TN and 8th grade sensation Makynli Bacon Makynli Bacon 6'0" | PF The Webb School | 2028 TN , the Lady Feet have a balanced attack. The squad is long, quick, and rangy. It was evident as they played host to a fundamentally sound Father Ryan squad who are technicians at their craft. It was truly a battle of possessions and Webb converted on steals and clutch shots down the stretch. Lady Irish had a sensational year, but the Lady Feet from Webb BB move on and look to add more to their trophy case.
Hutchison 31
Know Webb 48
This cross state battle was a tough matchup. The Lady Spartans are rolling and they picked a good time to be clicking on all cylinders. Led by sophomore sensation Meeyah Green Meeyah Green 5'9" | CG Webb-Knoxville | 2026 State TN , she is the leading catalyst of a balanced Lady Spartans attack. With a stout defense and an offense that allows Green to cook in the kitchen, the Lady Spartans are well equipped to make a run for the top spot this year. Taking down Hutchison who was riding high from the West side of the state wasn’t an easy feat. Capitalizing on turnovers ultimately led to the Lady Spartans coming out on top.
Knox Catholic 55
Harpeth Hall 37
The Lady Irish are on a mission and they are just super tough to deal with. Add the home court advantage of playing at Knox. Catholic, the build up around the game favored Catholic with all the momentum coming into it. The Lady Irish are a juggernaut and they are on a quest to repeat. Also , this was the last home game for senior sensation Sydney Mains Sydney Mains 5'11" | SF Knoxville Catholic | 2024 State TN , you knew right from the start that she and her teammates wanted this game badly. Side note: Mains leaves the program with over 2,200 career points, 2x Miss Basketball Finalist, and 4 state berths. Talk about a legacy that has helped pave the way for a solid foundation for years to come. Sydney had six 3s and finished the game with 30 points.Catholic has set the standard for excellence in the women’s high school game.
CPA 64
Briarcrest 36
All I can say about this Lady Lions club is that they are truly a balanced attack. They have speed, they have outside shooters, they have a paint presence, and they play defense. The Lady Lions are tough and they pack a mighty punch every time they step on the floor. Led by sophomores Merlie Routh and Lily Morrow Lily Morrow 5'11" | SG CPA | 2026 State TN , this CPA tandem is tough to handle. Routh uses her speed to create havoc on both ends of the floor. Her ability to lockdown on defense slowed down Briarcrest’s offensive game plan. Morrow was just a beast, she contributed all across the board statistically. Add clutch shooting from the outside and a solid inside presence, CPA was too much for the ladies of Briarcrest.
Now that the table has been set, it should be an exciting finish in Cookeville for the state tournament. Who knows who will be crowned champions this year.
