It’s amazing how many will break their necks and send in information to “NOT BE SEEN” at the huge events but I’ve been saying this for years, nevertheless, I’ll have plenty of drops starting with who “set it off” for me on opening day starting with the HS Competitive Division
The JR WNBA is on my BLOG, the MS Competitive is on my website and THE BABIES ARE COMING along with BIGS on the verge of breaking Top 100 plus are here but let’s do this right now
Glover is an athletic guard that uses her athleticism on both ends and she didn’t hesitate to show it off the top. She’s explosive off the dribble to score attacking the basket and scoring after contact but she also shows that extra gear in transition and her stop and pop from outside was hard to handle. She applied heat “on the ball” baseline to baseline and caused turnovers with her quick hands or playing the passing lane
Courtney Upshaw
Courtney Upshaw
Upshaw has the scary UPSIDE because she is a “long and athletic” guard that understands how to read both ends of the court well. Her playing the passing lane and handling the ball afterward to score or dish was nice, she also scored off the dribble in the set, her FLOATA had me going but she created her shot and dropped it from outside as well. She enjoyed applying pressure on defense baseline to baseline and showed quick hands to come away with steals
Loren Nesbitt
Loren Nesbitt
Nesbitt has some very nice upside and when you factor in she’s “long and athletic” as well as a freshman, she has plenty of intangibles to start with. I like her timing on defense to block or alter shots, she also has nice lateral movement to guard her man. She rebounded, on both ends and handled the ball afterward showing the “change of direction” in transition yet in the set, she has a very nice first step to get to the basket and finish
Sierra Arevelo
Sierra Arevelo
Arevelo was a pleasant surprise as I didn’t get a chance to catch her in high school yet her upside is high because she comprehends the simple things that will be big down the road. Court vision and handling the ball under pressure, along with her decision making is the foundation yet she showed she could attack and score using a nice first step, as well as finish after contact, body control played a part in that. She also did a good job defensively
Zamari Atkins
Zamari Atkins
Atkins was another athletic guard that just brought “IT” on both ends of the court and watching her set the defender up and blow by them with ease, I knew she was on to something. Her finishes after contact was nice, so was her body control in the air helping her score off balance. She hit teammates in traffic, she showed the jumper and did a good job defensively
Tyasia Young
Tyasia Young
Young is smooth and stays under control yet her poise has always been a major attraction from day 1. She is a facilitator that controls the tempo and gets her teammates involved however don’t blink because she can take over games offensively. Her first step is nice, she adds the HEZ to keep the defender guessing and her finishing strongly after contact, with either hand is solid but so is her jumper from outside. She applies pressure defensively and has good upside
Michayla Washington
Michayla Washington
Washington is “long and athletic” and I think I’ve mentioned that is and always will be the base. She has good timing to block, deflect and (or) alter shots but it’s her coming out of nowhere to throw it back that had me smiling. She rebounds and runs the floor on both ends, she also scores around the basket but her interior defense was nice, she even showed she could step outside the paint and guard her man
Richardson is yet another “long and athletic” player and let me say this, her progression from last season tells me she’s been working. She’s already among the top 2027 players on my list but that midrange jumper, coupled with her length keeps getting better and here’s the deal, she is creating her shot under pressure to get it off whenever she want. She also uses that creativity to score off the dribble yet her defense outside the paint has also jumped and speaking jumped, her shot blocking has soared
Woodard is ready for that UPDATE and will be listed on that 2027 list but her handling the ball under pressure the length of the court is only part of it. She can be dazzling with the ball to hypnotize the defender and blow by them yet her acrobatic finishes are a plus, especially since she does it after contact. Mid to long-range looked good, so did her court vision in the set as well as in transition yet her being “vocal on the court” took me back to another era
