The facility has two full courts with side baskets wall to wall and a hardwood court upstairs in the eagle nest. I enjoyed being perched up there with a perfect view to watch all the action take place! There were countless prospects from all the teams competing who have characteristics colleges at the next level are looking for. Here are a few of the performers today who specifically caught my attention.
Halen McLaughlin Halen McLaughlin 5’8″ | SG Sanford Meridian | 2025 State MI (2025 S40) performed at a high level in many areas on the court Saturday during the MAAC Scrimmages. She drove hard to the paint and used a counter pivot to score off the glass, then showed her efficiency from beyond the arc knocking down a multitude of 3’s. Halen scans the court and moves the ball, while playing gritty defense to steal the ball and cause turnovers. One of her best plays was converting a full speed layup through hard contact at the rim with her left hand. Halen’s strong, physical, and tough stature combines with her finesse offensively to make her an all around exceptional guard prospect.
Highlights
Jordyn Egger Jordyn Egger 5’9″ | PG Mount Pleasant | 2025 State MI (2025 S40) was one of the most efficient scorers on the court Saturday at the MAAC scrimmages. During the first game she drilled many 3’s from outside off the catch. She crashed the boards to finish inside and finished a full speed drive at the basket. Jordyn knocked down a clutch wing 3 at the buzzer and is an offensive weapon for her team.
MJ Mikus MJ Mikus 5’7″ | PG Howell | 2025 State MI (2025 S40) is one of those contributors who does everything to help a team be successful. On offense she communicates verbally and with her hands pointing where the passes should go and is an unselfish player who made more ball reversal skips to create open shots than anyone else on the court. She finished multiple full speed finishes with her left hand with one of her better plays happening after stealing the ball and scoring a left and one layup in transition. She is an outstanding two way player to watch this spring.
Alice Max Alice Max 6’2″ | PF Rochester | 2025 State MI (Ruh 2025) is a towering forward prospect who separated herself at the MAAC Scrimmages on Saturday. She showed off her range hitting a wing 3 with a textbook high release and hit another deep two off the catch. Alice has excellent balance and coordination for her height and was one of the two forwards who finished most efficiently inside. She blocked shots at the rim and forced missed with her long arms and defensive positioning. Alice made a reverse pivot fadeaway jumper for good measure and is going to be an exciting prospect to watch this spring.
Darby Horsfall
Darby Horsfall
Darby Horsfall (2025 UA Rise) was a new prospect to watch at the MAAC Scrimmages Saturday who really impressed me. She displayed effective outside shooting burying a wing 3 and corner 3, but also showed the ability to distribute strong passes. Darby rebounded the ball and fired it forward with one hand in transition to a running teammate. She is a prospect I am excited to see play more this spring for the Mystics.
Peyton Baer Peyton Baer 5’8″ | CG Lakeland | 2026 State MI (2026 Nationals) was a physically imposing performer at the MAAC Scrimmages. She has a strong and athletic build, which gives her advantages on both ends whether she’s playing in the wing, guard, or post. Peyton finsished a strong drive in traffic and worked inside to earn offensive rebounds and put backs. She forces shooters to make difficult shots with her defensive positioning and will be a prospect to watch for the Mystics this spring.
