Q&A with Jamie Granum
PGHD: Can you tell me a bit about your coaching background?
“I have coached AAU basketball for 15 years, as young as 10U up to 17U. I was an assistant boy’s High School basketball coach for 7 years and now am a head girls coach for the past 7 years.“
PGHD: Why are you excited to coach this group?
“A brand new, never played together before group is always exciting as a coach to see how fast we can blend all this talent together to play a team togetherness sport. We aren’t short on talent, it will just be about buy-in and how well we play off of each other’s strengths.“
PGHD: What will be the strengths of your team?
“Offensively we should be able to score, we have a nice blend of inside scoring and perimeter scoring. We also have a lot of length on defense which should create some problems for our opponents“
PGHD: What style of basketball will you play?
“Every coach says “fast” and “free” and then when you watch them play it’s neither of those two things, so I’m going to avoid saying
that. We will play a 5-out offense, lots of space, lots of ball movement looking for our best shot on each possession hopefully.“
PGHD: What will your team “hang your hat on”?
“I want to say defense, but in all reality it will probably be our ability to score in the paint“
PGHD: Who do you predict will be your top defender?
“Issie Steffensen, really good athlete, seems interested in playing defense which is key number one at this age level“
PGHD: What event/tournament are you looking forward to the most?
“Excited to play in the Select 40, brand new for Sanford Pentagon this year“
PGHD: Do you see your team playing man, zone, or a mix of both?
“Almost exclusively man defense, sprinkle in a few possessions of zone“
PGHD: Will your team get together and practice?
“We practice a few times per week“
PGHD: What are your goals for this AAU/grassroots season?
“Growth of our players, both in their own games and forming new relationships that go far beyond AAU seasons“
PGHD: Who are some of the top shooters?
“ Kailey Cradduck Kailey Cradduck 5'10" | SF Sioux Valley | 2027 State SD , Taylor Silvernail Taylor Silvernail 5'9" | CG Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2027 State SD , Kinley Bartsch Kinley Bartsch 5'8" | PG Minot | 2027 ND – Reps on reps which make all shooters really good“
Best of luck this spring & summer!
