Official offers and true college interest will be key into cracking the rankings, and our watchlist will fluctuate with each update.
The Watch List is for players who have a chance to become RANKED prospects as they finish out their high school and AAU careers.
Below are 5 players that I believe should be on college radars as summer league gets underway.
Mersinger should find herself some more minutes on the varsity squad this year, and if she carries the same amount of aggression and confidence that she’s been showing with Chicago Force so far this travel season, she’ll be a matchup problem for a lot of guards. Kid plays with a ton of heart and a chip on her shoulder. Offensively, she can get it done from anywhere on the court. Downhill or behind the arc she can be a problem. Defensively, she can alter an entire offense with her motor and grittiness.
I caught one game in Bedford Park (Windy City Warm Up) a couple weeks back, in which she got hit in the face.. blood in her eye, and came right back in with a bandage like nothing happened. Things like that are what coaches are looking for.
Tough and relentless.
Highlights
McAuley is always home to standout players, and Alexa falls right in that category. She has a college frame and solid speed to match it. Off the dribble she can get to the rim, but also has the confidence to let it go from outside the perimeter. Her size allows her to be effective in multiple spots throughout the court and that was evident at the Windy City Warm Up event as well. On the opposite side of the ball is where I think college coaches will truly be intrigued. She can cover the perimeter just as well as the post, which these days players pick and choose where they use their motor… Taji doesn’t. High potential.
Highlights
Coming off a game winner for a state title would change a lot of players approach to the game. Wardle’s focus is still playing high IQ ball. She knows how to get the most out of each possession, and she doesn’t dribble the air out of the ball to find the best decision. She seems to have a ton of trust in her knowledge of the game, and it shows in her skillset. Patient, decisive, and confident. Excited to see how she plays in the upcoming Windy City Windmill event.
Highlights
Size and versatility are key in securing offers. The ability to play and be impactful in different roles and positions are what college coaches are in search for. Porter has that and has shown that. She can stretch the floor, run the floor and make plays, while also being able to defend the paint. Her decision making is sharp and quick. Marist will be a team to watch this June at the Windy City Shootout.
Highlights
Koldoff plays twice her height, but can also switch into a guard and be the playmaker for her team. She’s instinctual on both ends of the court, but it really shows on the offensive side of the ball. She moves well without it, and with it she makes quick but calculated decisions. Defensively, she can hold her own as well, and is far from a liability. Impactful on the boards as well. A interesting prospect that will continue to get better as she gets older.
