I got to see 12 different teams in action last week to close out the high school summer season, with stops at Versailles and Northwestern for summer league action. There were plenty of talented players and stock risers who caught my attention, but here are the top five players I got to see last week.

Next up.... a busy month of July as all of the top players head out with their club teams to various locations around the country. We will be covering a lot of great action this month starting with the Select 40 event in Cincinnati and Run for the Roses in Louisville. Keep an eye on Prep Girls Hoops for all of the action!

Celeste Borchers- Russia

Russia's top player showed improvement since the last time she took the floor in the tournament last spring. Her overall game has grown as she is an outstanding defender and does a great job of on-ball defense. Very smart player, skilled at both ends of the floor. She can knock down the perimeter shot and is a strong leader.

[player_tooltip player_id='849193' first='Taylor' last='Wagner']- Versailles

One of the most underrated kids in the state, but she is a very good force around the rim. Good footwork allows her to finish in the paint and has good body control and is a force on the boards. She has drawn some attention from the next level and I think she has a skillset to allow her to play college hoops. Her best years very likely are ahead of her. (Feature photo above)

[player_tooltip player_id='895498' first='Maggie' last='Anderson']- Covington

Maggie is one of the most complete players in the area and heading into her senior year, she is primed for her best year yet. She has strong handles which allows her to step out and play in the perimeter, or get to the rim and finish. Very good basketball IQ with excellent court vision and can find her teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id='538246' first='Sammy' last='Russell']- New Carlisle Tecumseh

Sammy has to do so much for her team to be successful and she takes it all in stride. She makes her teammates better and can take over a game when needed. She runs the floor well, can stop on a dime and knock down the shot. Great range, not afraid to let it fly. Excellent passer with sharp court vision.

[player_tooltip player_id='319040' first='Brooke' last='Nelson']- South Charleston Southeastern

Arguably she had the best week of anyone I saw last week. Brooke is a major playmaker who can distribute and run the offense. She just makes plays with the ball. Great handles and able to turn up the tempo with explosive first step. Smooth player, active. Can knock down the 3.
