Over the past few days, we've highlighted some under-the-radar kids to watch this season. Today, I want to discuss the rising sophomore class and highlight a few kids who could take the next step in their development and become a lengthier topic on a team's scouting report.

The Hudson guard showed flashes of brilliance in 2023-24. Her raw speed and quickness allowed her to make some plays off the dribble that few others could. However, there were talented upper-class players that the Raiders trusted, likely due to their experience, and that got them a Regional Title last season. However, with them off to the next level, Hudson will need more from Larson. The 5'6 guard had a solid end to the season against Neenah, where she showed off her ability to shoot and turn the corner. However, pulling down six rebounds against Marshfield in the Regional Title game was more impressive to me. She has the competitive edge, athleticism, and skillset to thrive in the Big Rivers Conference and beyond.

[player_tooltip player_id='751242' first='Ava' last='Spratt']

The notable trio for Waukesha West is [player_tooltip player_id='602353' first='Jordan' last='Fenske']-[player_tooltip player_id='533083' first='Taylor' last='Gifford']-[player_tooltip player_id='751242' first='Ava' last='Spratt']. Spratt is the youngest of the three and wrapped up her first high school season last winter. The 5'7 guard had her ups and downs, but the ups were something to be excited for. She shot the ball well against some of the best teams in the Classic Eight and had her freshman season high of 21 points on the road against Arrowhead. There is talent there, and she should find more consistency in her second season of high school ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='874695' first='Addison' last='Betker']

The 5'6 guard stepped into a challenging situation at Racine Park because the program in recent history has had an uphill battle in the Southeast Conference. However, Betker has been an excellent addition to the program in her first season last winter. She was the focal point of the Panthers' offense and did well with the responsibility and the defensive attention teams paid to her because of the amount of usage she had last season. We'll see how the Panthers improve over the next three, but Betker will be a barometer of where this program will go for the next few years.

Addison Pommerening

The Arrowhead wing's name popped up during the WIAA scholastic live period "Summer Slam." Among the players who've been in high school, Pommerening was the one that surprised me the most. I believe she was a JV player at Arrowhead last season and could be a prominent role player for the Warhawks in their upcoming campaign. Pommerening plays hard, finds loose balls, and rebounds well for her size. She could be a fifth starter or the first kid off the bench.
