In this piece we talk about five prospects out of the 2028 Class, that are worth a mention moving into their first high school season this Winter. Honestly, everyone who competes and gives it their all deserves a mention but these five could be important producers for their respective Varsity programs, sooner rather than later.

The dynamic at Lincoln North Star High School is going to be interesing this upcoming Winter. From the looks of it, they already have their Varsity squad locked up, as it's basically everyone returning from their State Playoff run last season. Someone to know out of their underclassmen group coming in is Triniti Knowlin. Knowlin will be another shifty and creative PG that will be added to this group, eventually taking over the reigns as their leader somewhere down the road. Their starting PG at the moment will be [player_tooltip player_id='777563' first='Joyce' last='Johnson'], with a handful of other prospects waiting in the weeds to back her up. I would like to see Triniti compete at the JV or Sophomore level to kick things off for her high school career but I'm sure their coaching staff has a plan in place already so we will just have to wait and observe.

Rooney has a quick trigger from deep, pin point accuracy, beautiful footwork, and a willingness to become better every single day. She has proven that she can catch and let it go off of screens on the catch or she can dribble it and pull up off of that as well. I'm excited to see how complete of a guard she can become over her next few years. If she evens out all of her abilities, she is going to be one tough prospect to guard. She will be competing with her Millard West squad over these next four years. If their system with the Wildcats stays as productive as years past, I'm sure that Rooney will fit right in.

[player_tooltip player_id='988330' first='Faith' last='Samek'] of Aquinas Catholic High School is an interesting talent out of the 2028 Class, that I'm going to have to watch closely these next few years. Samek is a multi-sport athlete, that seems to be extremely busy all year long, in which ever sport is in season. She is a faster learner and she adapts pretty well situationally. If those two things can stay constant, she could turn some heads before you know it this Winter. I'm not too sure who Aquinas will have coming back just yet but either way, Samek is sure to be ready to roll.

I'm going to put everyone on notice now. [player_tooltip player_id='884235' first='Shayla' last='Rautenberg'] is either going to end up being a Division-1 Basketball player or Volleyball player at the end of her high school career because of her size at 6'2, her demeanor while competing, and her wherewithal about situations in whichever sport she is participating in. Rautenberg is coming off of a Summer where she was a standout on the Volleyball floor and I think that is where she will build her career on in the end but for now, she is going to be someone who averages near a double-double in Points/Rebounds this Winter because of her natural height and reach. If she can show a high motor, expansion on the skill side of things, and a soft touch near the paint, she might also get the chance to play D1 Basketball as well before you know it.

[player_tooltip player_id='884641' first='Ella' last='Mungin'] of Millard South is going to see the Varsity floor as a Freshman this Winter. During the month of June, Mungin had the privilege to play up with that group and I think she showed enough to the coaching staff, that should could be put up Varsity right away. I'm not sure about starting but definitely on the team to kick things off. Mungin comes into high school at 6'0 with a well-rounded overall game. I've seen her compete 1-2 times this AAU season with her [program_tooltip program_id='712709' first='Nebraska' last='Attack'] UAA team and she could definitely build on that moving forward. I think by the end of the season that Mungin could be seeing Varsity minutes along side their upperclassmen post presence, [player_tooltip player_id='896886' first='Jayla' last='Cleveland'] but only time will tell.
