The rising juniors' rankings were just posted and this is an ideal time to mention the girls that help run these talented teams. Typically point guards can be considered an extension of the coach, but these girls are more than essential in their roles to help elevate their squad to another level. This is a group of 5 that is dynamic and all have special abilities.

[player_tooltip player_id='278582' first='Olivia' last='Fleming'] (2025) | 5'7 PG | NMH

[player_tooltip player_id='278582' first='Olivia' last='Fleming'] has been on an incredible run through the summer. She has picked up a plethora of offers recently due to her dominant play with the Rivals and her impressive showing at the NEPSAC Showcase. Fleming comes in as the top point guard due to her ability to completely take over games at any point. Fleming is a game changer offensively when she is running the show. She consistently makes the right reads, lets the plays develop like any floor general would, but her offensive prowess can be overwhelming. Fleming is a steady threat to any defensive scheme. Her elaborate handle is packed with combos and counters that will leave defenders stunned in the fashion she delivers them in. Balanced and control attacks that are extremely calculated are what make her a lot to handle in the open court, but also within half court sets. Olivia's shooting is very distinctive as well. She can shoot the ball in any scenario and she has incredible range. Fleming is a viable source for carrying heavy scoring loads. What's exceptional is she can do all of this while still maintaining full control of the flow of the game and maintaining elite facilitation skills. The defense has yet to be mentioned either. Her lateral quickness and high IQ make her a high-quality defender that gets after any perimeter player. All that being said, Fleming is coming in as the #3 player in the class and the top point guard coming into the year.

[player_tooltip player_id='278580' first='Molly' last='Corcoran'] (2025) | 5'7 PG | Tabor

While watching a ton of tape throughout the year on Corcoran, it became clear exactly why she is a top tier point guard. She is a reliable playmaker that knocks down shots and is a pure winner. The energy plus effort put forth on a persistent basis set her apart from others in the class. Her game is smooth and simple, yet effective in the toughest of games. Molly is rarely forcing plays to happen and apt to make opportune plays put her team in the best position to win. She has a flush jumper and a great change of pace dribble that allow her to be a steady offensive option. Corcoran can create for her teammates of the bounce while puncturing the first line of defenders. She's a tough girl that will finish through contact. Molly's underrated ability to make any pass even when crowed is overlooked at times. She loves to get others involved and she's constantly looking for trailing or posting bigs. The Tabor guard is coming into the season as the #2 ranked player at the position.

[player_tooltip player_id='483912' first='Madison' last='Benigni'] (2025) | 5'5 PG | Mercy

One of the toughest competitors in high school basketball. Benigni has a fiery nature that gets kicked into overdrive on the biggest stages. Last year she helped lead Mercy into postseason success. A solid shooter off the catch and assertive takes to the basket from the top of the key or the wings. Madison has a signature spin move that is uncontrol, but extremely lethal and effective nearly every time she decides to go to it. She embraces contact despite having enough finesse to make every play finished look flawless. Benigni has topnotch speed and quickness. She uses it to her advantage on both ends of the floor. When guarding other point guards, she embraces the bumps before making a play on the ball. She will disrupt ballhandler's timing and rhythm while staying at the hip. Overall, Madison is a thorough point guard that make others around her better. She's the #3 ranked player at the position.

[player_tooltip player_id='481897' first='Kam' last='Derba'] (2026) | 5'7 PG | Dexter Southfield

Instant firepower is exactly what [player_tooltip player_id='481897' first='Kam' last='Derba'] is. She makes tough shots a normal part of her game. Derba can shoot any type of shot and will let it fly without hesitation. The smooth release of the sharpshooter can be used in any set due to her ability to get shots off quickly, however, Kam is deadly in prompt isolations, transition and last second shots. Kam's footwork work in tandem with her shooting mechanics make her an elite level shooter. Derba walks into her shot with the proper flow that allow her to get great lift in her shot. The shooting is precise and efficient, even when called upon to be a volume shooter. She can go unconscious from beyond the 3-point line after seeing the first shot drop. Derba has a high upside with her offensive capability. She'll surely be a player to look out for this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='351869' first='Ava' last='Dwyer'] (2026) | 5'7 PG | Groton

The All-ISL Honorable Mention point guard for Groton is a well-grounded floor general that makes plays for others and herself. The facilitation combined with an even scoring attack and timely dishes to her teammates make her a top pg in the class. Dwyer is strong, but stays low to the ground in her attack which create openings for teammates. The angled takes to the rim lead to her getting contact at the rim and getting to the free-throw line. Ava is a solid defender that can be switchable depending on the situation. Last year she averaged 12 ppg and almost 3 assists. Dwyer is coming into the season as the #5 point guard in the class.

The rising juniors' rankings were just posted and this is an ideal time to mention the girls that help run these talented teams. Typically point guards can be considered an extension of the coach, but these girls are more than essential in their roles to help elevate their squad to another level.
