We are six weeks into the fall league, and I have seen quite a few solid prospects. In this piece I want to focus on some stellar guard play from a few players who could surprise this season.

Milan Clark, New Town, 2027, Guard

Milan has been solid in all of the games I have watched. She is a confident shooter and has been hitting threes at a solid level. I think she's a natural two guard with a scorer's mentality, so she is best suited to play off the ball. Defensively she gets after it, using good footwork and speed to apply pressure and keep ball handlers in front of her.

[player_tooltip player_id='946894' first='Josiah' last='Smalls'], McDonogh, 2028, Point Guard

Josiah has been solid as a backup point guard. At 4'11" she has to bring toughness to the game, and she does that. She's a floor general and understands her path to playing time is taking care of the ball and running the offense. She's been efficient with the ball and has shown a good understanding of the game. She's strong physically and doesn't allow herself to get moved around or posted up easily. She can make shots out to the three-point line and she uses solid ball handling to get into the paint and break down defenses.

[player_tooltip player_id='979332' first='Tatyana' last='Fields'], Milford Mill, 2025, Point Guard

Her team popped up for one game but that was enough to see that she has been working on her game. I really liked the drive and kick aspect of her game as she set her teammates up on multiple occasions with crisp and accurate passes after drawing help defenders her way. She's a good enough three-point shooter to command respect and is quick and athletic enough to blow by defenders who close out. She has a strong base, good balance and plays off two feet when appropriate.

Trinity has been exceptional during league play and I also got a chance to watch her at the EYG Clinic in Virginia. Trinity is super competitive and goes hard on every play. She has a good handle with some nice crossover moves and range out to the three-point line. She excels in the mid-range area where her pull up is deadly. She has a nice floater package and a good touch around the basket. She plays with a killer instinct and definitely leans towards score first to set up her teammates later.

Athletic, 5'5" guard with a nice touch around the basket. She had a really nice game against Oakland Mills where she showed off her range and athleticism. She's a solid on ball defender and her confidence has grown each week.
