Preview: Generational talent defines Class 2A

In this article:
Contrary to what the kids might think, I haven’t been around since the dinosaur age. But in the decade that has passed since I have been intently watching girls basketball in Minnesota, I can’t recall there ever being a group of generational players – some of the best to ever compete in our backyard – like we have right now in Class 2A. It’s truly remarkable. On the eve of the 2024-25 Minnesota State High School League season, it would serve you well on opening weekend to get off the sofa and catch these four players live. All of them will be in action Saturday at the Breakdown Tip Off Classic at Southwest Christian High School in Chaska.
Addison Mack

Pictured above, Addi committed to the University of Maryland last week after weighing offers from countless elite college programs across the country. The Terps got a good one. Ranked 2nd by Prep Girls Hoops in the Class of 2025, Mack is a high-skill point guard who distributes at an elite level and can shoot it with the best of them.
Addi and the Redhawks will meet Orono at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Maddyn Greenway

Providence Academy | 2026

– Providence Academy
Maddyn also committed in the past few days, making the somewhat surprising choice of the University of Kentucky. Like Mack, Greenway is one of the most skilled players in the state. What sets her apart is her aggressive mentality and willingness to do whatever it takes to win. We consider Maddyn a co-#1 in the Class of 2026.

Topping the 2026 prospect rankings alongside Greenway, Tori is a unique talent who plays a cerebral game at both ends of the floor. She’s bigger than the other two, and equally skilled. What sets Tori apart is her defensive excellence. In addition to dismantling the Minnesota scoring record book like the other two standouts, the University of Minnesota commit is one of the state’s top defensive assets.

Chloe Johnson

Duluth Marshall | 2028

– Duluth Marshall
Rounding out this elite foursome is the 2028 #1 who many consider to be the best freshman in America. It’s difficult to describe Chloe’s game because she plays in ways that nobody else does. She controls tempo, dictates pace, and times her passes as well as anyone since the great Paige Bueckers. With unbelievable court vision, basketball IQ and skill development, Johnson’s potential is difficult to fathom. She’s one of one.
See Chloe at the Tip Off Classic when Duluth Marshall meets Albany at 6:30 p.m.
