Southwest Super 64 Standouts

On October 19-20th I attended the Southwest Super 64 which had quite a few teams that will contend for state championships this upcoming season. This event was well worth the price of admission and was attended by quite a few college coaches. Even though I didn't see every team I saw the majority of them.   Here I highlight just a few of the standouts from this event:    Jayda is a rising sophomore who showed that she will be key contributor in the Tigers season. She showed an improved offensive game and toughness in the paint. She also rebounded very well in and out of her area.     Mulvanny was at times unguardable during the event with her superior athletic ability and length. This enabled her to get rebounds and often initiate the offense. When her outside shot got going the defense was at her mercy.     Rylee ran the Pioneers offense steadily by constantly putting pressure on the opposing team's defense. She often got into the paint and dropped off passes or got her own shots off. On defense she played good on the ball defense, often making ballhandlers uncomfortable.     The senior Hess continued to look like she is poised for a breakout season. Now that she is getting more shot opportunities, opponents are beginning to see what she could do. She shot it from all three levels and made her presence felt on defense.     The tough lefty looked like she is ready to be one of the next stars at Valley. She displayed a solid handle with the ability to finish through contact as well as having some very good passes. Kinsey operated very nicely from the mid-range.     Medina played once again with a very mature pace to her game. She rarely forced a shot and always had her head up looking to hit an open teammate with passes. Her basketball IQ is what sets her apart from others.     Watts led her team to the championship in their bracket with a solid all-around performance. She shot the ball very well from the perimeter as well in the paint. She was a ballhawk on both ends of the court, often finding herself around the ball.
