The Bismarck Legacy Sabers beat the Fargo North Spartans last weekend 66-40. Bismarck was tremendous defensively and made it very difficult for North to get into any sort of rhythm offensively. Legacy has great size, one time having a line up of 5'9, 5'11, 6'2, 6'3, and 6'3! Fargo North had some good moments and has no reason to hang their heads - Legacy will be competitive for a state title this season. Here are some notes from the game:

Whitney led a steady attack for the Sabers on Saturday. She is a good point guard who is able to effectively initiate the offense. She finished the game with 9 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. She was able to disrupt any offensive series North tried to get into and made great decisions when her team had the rock. Whitney is one of a few returning players from last year's squad and you can tell she feels comfortable out on the varsity floor. She is going to have a solid season for the Sabers.

As in previous articles, I mention that Marlee is going to be an absolute stud. She finished Saturday's game with 13 points and 2 blocks. She knocked down 2 three pointers right at the beginning of the game to get her team going. She is incredibly long and athletic and has great timing defensively. College coaches should be looking at Marlee very closely going forward. She is a big time prospect and a great complimentary piece to [player_tooltip player_id='375796' first='Brooklynn' last='Felchle'].

Brooklynn was totally and completely dominant against the Spartans. She was able to do whatever she wanted offensively. You can tell she has been coached well with how she uses her body to create advantages in the post. Her ability to seal and move around defenders without much effort is really impressive. There are maybe two to three defenders in the entire state who have a chance at slowing down Brooklynn this season. She finished Saturday's game with 21 points and 9 rebounds, shooting an incredible 10/11 from the field.

Sadie was a reserve that I noticed that I think has a chance to be a solid varsity contributor. She has great size at 6'3", and moves well for her size. What I think can make her into a great player is the fact that she will have to compete against Brooklynn every day at practice. That is about 50 more practices where she is playing against one of the best players in the state. Sadie has a high ceiling being that she is only a sophomore.

Grace came into Bismarck and did her best to create scoring opportunities for her team against a stifling defense. She finished the game as North's leading scorer with 10 points. She also contributed defensively, recording three steals in the contest. Grace had some nice moves getting to the rim. She is pretty crafty around the basket for a smaller guard, utilizing her pivots to get shots up against bigger defenders. Grace's game will start to thrive once North gets a few more games under its belt.

Grayce finished with 6 points and 5 rebounds. Her 6 points came from behind the three point line, going an efficient 2 for 3 from behind the arc. Grayce plays really hard and will only get better as the season progresses. She will be able to get more open looks as North finds its identity offensively. North also was playing against one of the best defensive teams in the state. Once in league play, look for Grayce to be a more aggressive scorer.

Legacy was really good defensively and will be a contender for a state title this season. They have all the pieces to be outstanding this season. I really liked their double post offense, utilizing Brooklynn's ability to seal up the lane for easy baskets.

North is going to be a solid team this season. They played two great teams out West and will have a lot to look forward to with this group. They are an athletic team that will compete defensively and improve offensively as the season moves along.
