Three weeks of possible games and the winter KSHSAA moratorium has gone. Ahead of next week's games I think it is a good time to take a look at freshmen impacting at the varsity level. Numerous 2028s have already carved out major roles for their teams. In this part one of two take a look at the first five of ten impact players.

Playing the four spot for the Eagles is the long, fast and athletic Boyd. Versatility will be a major calling card in the years ahead. A high of 11 boards against Shawnee Mission Northwest shows her rebounding chops and her handle in transition highlights her ability to work on the perimeter. Averaging 5 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks per game through 5 games watch her to develop into a high caliber wing.

The graduation of a high percentage of the Eagles' back court has opened the door for Deiter to step right in and fill a void. Watching video of her play Deiter's athleticism, speed and handles in transition are readily apparent. She runs well and pushes the ball on the move. In knocking down four three pointers in the Eagles' lone loss to Centralia Deiter showed an ability to hit them from all over and with range. She plays a big part of the Eagles' full court playing style.

While it has been a full summer since I last saw Gary play PGH Kansas' own Adrian Maloney had reported on her in November. He described her as versatile, high energy, a athletic finisher and having a strong motor. She is formidable on both ends with her combination of physical size and quickness. Video I have seen shows her with an ability to protect the ball finishing, elevation on her jumper and an ability to hit threes off the catch and the dribble. Through four games she is putting up 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and nearly a assist per game for the Titans.

I got a long, first-hand look at Lewis at the PGH Battle In The Sunflower and the MAYB Summer Kickoff. The top freshman point guard in the classification, her feel for the game is at a very high level. Her handles are very strong. And with her speed stopping her in the open court is very, very difficult. A perimeter threat, Lewis finishes through contact well. Her quickness and headiness is apparent on the defensiveness as well. Making the Hays Shootout all-tournament team she hung 22 points, 5 assists and 2 steals on Olathe East.

The Cardinal freshman is providing some much needed scoring. Through four games she is putting up 12 points and 8.5 rebounds. A three point threat, Vondracek wastes little motion shooting off the catch or the dribble. She is also snagging 2.3 steals and dishing out 2.3 assists.
