I was interested to see this new look St. John's team following some of the big departures they've had after last season. Morgan seemed in total control as a passer and scorer. She knocked down a handful of threes and did a great job moving the ball against Steward's zone. Her length and activity played a major factor on both ends. Camille rebounded the ball and ran the floor well to give herself opportunities to get easy buckets. She had a few nice plays where she sealed off defenders to use her length to finish. This game was close throughout, but Ireton had a slight edge in the first half. In the 3rd quarter, Long Island Lutheran got some breathing room in a large part to the performance of sharpshooting wing Emily McDonald. Emily knocked down back-to-back threes and had a nice take to the rim. Nyla's ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim at her size was really on display. She worked out of the post a good amount and did some great work in the paint. She knocked down threes with hands in her face, and that length she has allows her to get shots off over players. Savannah was as good as anyone in a game filled with some of the best talent in the country. Amirah knocked down some shots today from serious range with defenders in her face. Amirah battled on the offensive glass and had a few put backs. She hit a dagger three late and had a couple of and 1s that completely iced this game. The PG battle between her and Theresa Hagans was something I was looking forward to, and with the pace of this game, they were both heavily involved.
