Being a good free throw shooter is much more important than most realize. If you can't make free throws, you can't be trusted to be on the court in important or clutch moments. Especially in leagues that don't have a take-foul rule. In this piece we brush up on some of the best free throw shooters that the state of Iowa has had to offer this Varsity season, according to their numbers from the line so far.

Someone that is quietly having one of the best seasons out of the entire state is Nakia Ollivierre of Waterloo West High School. Ollivierre is putting up some pretty impressive numbers at this time and that doesn't seem like it's going to slow down anytime soon. She has the second leading PPG average throughout Iowa and she is getting those buckets in every way imaginable. The numbers that really sticks out about all of this is that she has 90 free throw attempts on the season, putting her average at 6.5 per game, in which she is converting 5.8 of those attempts. These numbers blow everyone else out of the water except 2026 - [player_tooltip player_id='510277' first='Izzy' last='Eisbach'] of Nodaway Valley but she is the only other individual that is remotely close.

The most free throw attempts and the most free throw makes on the Winter thus far are both held by the same individual and that is [player_tooltip player_id='1145665' first='Josephine' last='Moore'] of the Sigourney Savages. Moore has 112 attempts on the season, making 83 of them for a 75% clip from the free throw line throughout their 12 games. To get to the line for 10 attempts a contest is something you don't see too often. It means that the player is relentless in their pursuit on contact and the defense at times doesn't have answers so they have to foul. Both things demonstrate that Moore is playing some respectable basketball to finish off her high school career at this time.

Lewis Central likes to play through their D1 Volleyball commit in the middle, SF - [player_tooltip player_id='1005087' first='Brooke' last='Larsen']. Larsen currently falls into the Top Five in both Free Throw Attempts (106) and Free Throw Makes (65) on the Winter mainly because of how the system at LC works. They move the rock at a solid rate and look for their most physical players next to the basket once a window opens up. It's really a good strategy if you take a look at their roster and their options. Larsen is going to continue to work hard and do whatever she can to string together some more victories as we move close to the Playoffs. That's all you can ask for.

The North Polk Comets are going to be in the conversation to bring home their Classes State Title in a few short weeks. If they want to accomplish that, it's all hands on deck, especially out of their stars like PG, [player_tooltip player_id='311383' first='Abby' last='Tuttle']. Tuttle is a UNI committed prospect for good reason. She has some nights where she is making play after play, truly looking unstoppable on the Varsity floor. One of the most impressive numbers on Tuttle's season is that she is 32-34 from the charity stripe, making 94.1% of her attempts. If you take into consideration prospects with over 30 attempts on the season, there aren't many close to shooting over 90%. It's about three individuals at this time. This number is an important one at the end of the day. If anyone wants to stay on the floor in clutch time, you MUST be able to make free throws so it's refreshing to see that Tuttle goes beyond and above that mark.

We haven't touched on IKM-Manning High School this Winter but that all changes with the type of play that [player_tooltip player_id='996536' first='Anna' last='Stangl'] is currently competing with. Stangl has been a constant the past few Winter's for her Varsity program. She has been a PG that understands her role as it pertains to scoring and facilitating for the teammates around her, she plays with a smart head on her shoulders, and she shows a lot of dedication on the the defensive end as well. Stangl is in the conversation for being the 90% club from the line this season. She is right at 89% on just over 50 attempts. By the looks of it, she plays aggressively on offensive so I'm sure she is going to have plenty more tries this Winter. If she does, she could break that 90% make and really set herself above most others in this specific category.
