Day 3 of the 2025 AVCTL/GWAL Basketball Challenge ran as scheduled on Saturday with six boys and girls games running back-to-back at Park City Arena. Eisenhower vs Wichita East, which opened the day, supplied standouts to my day 3 standouts part 1 article. This part 2 looks at standouts from the best game of the night, a 76-71 Andover Central versus Kapaun Mt. Carmel barn burner won by the Jaguars.

Andover Central

Tabor and running mate [player_tooltip player_id='779231' first='Reese' last='Wilborn'] have great chemistry and it showed in the second half. Fast and quick with handles, she showed off how dangerous she can be as a perimeter shooter. Primarily from timely feeds she lit up for 8 threes on the way to a 28 point night. She reciprocated as well but I would like to see her cut down on the number of live turnovers. Kapaun generated transition points by jumping passing lanes so reading perimeter defenses would be something I would like to see.

Wilborn went off for 18 points,. She buried 4 3s and went 4/4 from the line. She had 13 points alone in the fourth quarter to help the Jaguars grab and extend the lead. I really liked how she got to the line from scoring looks on the move, particularly off the catch. Her chemistry with senior PG [player_tooltip player_id='675831' first='Taylin' last='Tabor'] was very evident as they fed each other especially well in the second half. Kapaun generated a substantial number of live steals from their perimeter defense. Wilborn needs to improve her defense reading and consistency of her more routine passes, as opposed to quick feeds to shooters.

Converse had a lot of trouble on both ends of the floor gaining and holding position on senior Kapaun post Ella Rudy. But the second half saw her shake free from her and any subs Kapaun tried to use when Rudy was on the bench. Converse put up a dozen of her 18 points in that half on lob catches while on the move, difficult short looks and mid-paint jumpers. Slenderish with long limbs she also hurt Kapaun with her timely rebounding and passing out of the post to her very prolific shooters. In addition to her length and energy Converse ran the floor well.

Kapaun Mt. Buckner-Franklin can flat get it done in bunches. Including hitting buzzer-beating threes at the end of the first half and the third quarter, as part of canning four overall, she went off for 38 points. Her ability to score on up to three defenders, finishing with either hand and knocking down jumpers with a hand in her face was very impressive. But that was not all she had. She generated steals with her quick hands, gathered several offensive boards and hit open teammates with passes. Buckner-Franklin never got flustered and was consistently heady.
