There are time periods where things can be hot, a window of just pure excellence. Sportswise, look at the Chiefs reign. The Las Vegas Aces run. Windows of pure greatness unfolding right before our eyes.

When I think about this 2027 class, I too see greatness coming from this class. It seems that a lot of these girls have played ball at a high level earlier than most. You can tell how they compete, the way they move, how they handle adversity, their ability to create and finish plays. Little things like that jump out in their style of play. Also too, you can tell if they have been battle tested or not by how much court time a coach is willing to allow them to play. Does she start? Does she come off the bench first? There are some pretty tough districts out there where a lot of sophomores don't see the court that early or that fast. They have to do their time on JV and wait their turn.

My point is this class has some big-time contributors who are being called on early in their career. They come in, excel at their role, execute their assignments, and just ball out. It isn't that often you see such a large number of kids in a class do the work, put in the work, and get the job done. You may have a few that do it, but this class, shoot, majority of them are getting their number called.

I will say for the next couple of years, you will be seeing some tight battles coming up within the high school ranks. The game is growing from the pros down to the amateur level and the TSSAA game is right there with it. These 2027s are tough. I'll add the 28s are nearby as well, which gives the sport itself a bright future for the next couple of years.

Here are some players to watch from around the state.

If you happen to be a fan of the Lady Vols, picture a young Tess Darby. The six footer can do work in the painted area, but also stretch the floor and knock down 3s from the arc at a consistent clip. She can play the 3-5 and not miss a beat at any position. Her length creates problems on the defensive end. She minimizes passing lanes, blocks shots, and contributes on the boards. This kid is solid and a viable scoring option for Wayne Co.

Speedy forward who has active hands and feet. Solid from all 3 levels, her defense is what travels with her to every gym. Defensively she is tough, getting hands on balls every way possible. Tips, steals, blocks, rebounds, vroom, she is off to the races on the other end not only getting transition buckets, but scoring in sets as well. She growing in confidence every time she steps onto the floor. This kid is athletic and knows how to use her abilities to her advantage. Keep an eye out on this kid as she will be one of the next top prospects to come from this program.

Aggressive kid who is hard to bottle up. She is strong and very forceful. She is going to be in attack mode and brings and continues to bring it. She can score from multiple spots on the floor. However, it is her D that she packs with nightly as she travels. This kid is nice and is the X factor on her ball club.

One solid two way player who gets it done on both ends of the floor. The one thing that stands out the most is her defense. Her ability to read and react and close down an area is tremendous. She anticipates well, pounces on the opportunity, and then it is off to the races. Offensively, she can score inside and out. If she is on the arc, she can spot up and knock it down at a consistent clip. Run her off the line, she will use her speed to attack the goal. This kid brings it nightly and is a solid option for the Lady Patriots.

Hungry, talented, plays with speed and poise. A few characteristics that describe this young lady's game. She gets after it and I'm talking about both ends. She will lock you up defensively, while contributing on the boards and blocking shots. Offensively, she is going to the paint, but won't hesitate to stop and pop from 15ft or unleash a deadly three. This kid is smart, heady, and competes like no other. Keep your eyes on this kid because with the more court time she has, her game will continue to grow.
