Sophomore year is pivotal for college basketball prospects. For many it's their first opportunity to show what they can do at the varsity level. For others it's a chance to be relied upon as a key piece for the first time, either as part of the starting lineup or off the bench. For all, it's an opportunity for college prospects to raise their recruiting stock no matter where they fall in the pecking order. As the high school regular season comes to a conclusion, it's time for our winter rankings update for the Class of 2027. We'll roll out the updated rankings in multiple parts, beginning with 5 prospects who raised their stock in the top 20.

+2 – The 6'2 guard took a leap of faith this year moving from Rochester John Marshall to Minnetonka where the competition is tougher, the expectations are higher and the learning curve is steep. It turned out to be an outstanding decision for Jazmin's prospects as a college basketball player. Although her season has ended prematurely due to a painful case of shin splints, Daing proved this winter that she could do it all at a high level. Jazmin is a high-major prospect who now moves up two places to #5.

+2 – The 6'1 power forward from Brainerd is a poster child for the process of incremental improvement. Right from the get-go she has been considered a strong Division 1 prospect possessing the size, strength, skill and athleticism required to play at that level. What's truly impressive is how Addy continues to get better bit by bit, step by step, week after week. Last week she became the second player in the class to commit when she verballed to the University of North Dakota. She rises two spots to #8.

+1 – From the time we first watched Maren in 7th grade it was obvious that she had the potential to play basketball at a high level. Every time we see her compete, that opinion is reinforced again and again. This winter, Day's performances on a strong Wayzata squad have continued to back that up and more. Now 6'1 and super long, Day is a smooth athlete with a polished set of skills and the ability to impact the game in a big way at both ends of the floor. She rises one position in the 2027 rankings to #12.

+5 – It's not easy replacing a legend but someone had to step up at Hopkins and try to fill the shoes vacated by the great Liv McGill, a truly elite point guard who is one of the top collegians in America at the University of Florida. Jaliyah transferred in from Park Center and quickly earned the primary PG role for Hopkins. The explosive athlete has proved clearly that she can handle the best in Minnesota night after night and bring fans out of their seats in the process. Diggs has earned a jump of five places to #15.

+6 – Prior Lake is a veteran squad with a half-dozen impactful seniors in the fold, including a pair of D1 commits. Yet night after night, the sophomore has come up big. Now leading the team in scoring by a hair, Fisher is an elite athlete with tons of speed, plenty of bounce and just enough swagger to make everyone believe she has what it takes to be a big-time collegian. The 5'11 guard was ranked #39 when we first rated this class in 2023. Since then, she's risen to #35, #23, #22 and now moves up another six places to #16.

HOW WE RANK PROSPECTS

For those of you who are new to how the Prep Girls Hoops ranking process works, let us issue a friendly reminder. We rank prospects based on their potential as college basketball players. The rankings are NOT about current performance in high school. This is an important distinction, one that explains why some high school standouts are farther down the list than players who have yet to grace a varsity roster.

We take a lot of grief for this approach and we don't always get it right. Time will tell with the Class of 2027, of course, but based on a distinct set of criteria that has worked well over time we believe our process does a pretty good job of identifying next-level prospects. To learn more about how it works, please visit the How We Rank section under the rankings tab.
