I've been asked many times what I look for while evaluating and I've tried to explain that it's a gift and things just hit me and here's why. I don't look at the NOW, I look at the THEN, so I know where the bar has been set after being out here for over 20 years observing but these young ladies stood out every time I caught them. Note this is from the 8th grade Division, stay tuned for my part 2

Lester sold me years ago and being a #sizedontmatter guard who dropped the long ball and dove on the floor for loose balls told me what was coming. she's a fierce competitor who brings it on both ends, her court vision and attacking the basket continue to elevate as well as the "on the ball" pressure she applies

Hunter falls into that "ceiling has no roof" group because she is one of the most explosive guards I have seen in her Texas class and when you factor in she not only uses her athleticism on both ends, "on the ball" baseline, plays the passing lane, her first step to get to the rim is powerful, so are her finishes. She also BATTLES for rebounds and loose balls, has a nice pull-up jumper, and solid court vision

Penright also showed explosiveness off the dribble yet her SWB," speed with the ball", will create major problems, and here's why. She stays under control going full speed and her body control and acrobatic finishes were nice yet she can also thread the needle going full speed, from 20 feet away. On the ball defense, check, plays the passing lane, double-check

Tipp showed me something I love seeing and that was "she understands how to put the ball in the basket multiple ways". Mid to long-range is solid, yes she creates her shot under pressure but she also creates contact by attacking the basket to finish. She also gave me the "catch and shoot" with a hand in her face but she scored around the basket, putbacks included saw the floor, and drumroll please, played the passing lane

Gille grabbed my attention at an Individual Showcase a few months ago and after finding out her mom graduated in the deepest class ever from the Houston area, I see a lot of similarities. First of all, she's heady and uses a deceptive first step coupled with the HEZ to get by the defender to score but peep this, she can finish with either hand. She can drop the jumper, her court vision is nice but she also plays solid defense in the set as well as baseline to baseline. One more thing, she plays the passing lane
