Fantasy February Frenzy: Tournament Recap

We pick back up at Austin Peay University, where they will be hosting our west region. The teams who are competing on this side of the state pose some pretty tough matchups that really could go either way. With a flip of a coin (literally) we will see what teams move on to the next round.   Let's look at the matchups for these games.   Wesrtview vs. Clarksville Christian   Player to Watch:    Solid big who can go to work on the interior. Has a nice face-up game and really can put the ball in the hole consistently. Plays with relentless energy that poses a threat on both ends of the floor. She's a grinder that can and will get physical.    North Greene vs. Ensworth   Player to Watch:    Stretch 4 who knows how to utilize her size and speed to her advantage. She can peruse along the arc and knock down 3s. Won't hesitate to put it on the floor and release a nice floater once she hits the paint. Also is big-time when it comes to rebounds, eliminating second chance opportunities for opponents. Solid kid who has a bright future.    Loretto vs. Harpeth Hall   Player to Watch:    Up and coming ball player who competes on every possession. She can score from all three levels, defend, rebound, and has the ability to block shots. She has active hands and feet and will guard both ball handlers and bigs. Look for her to continue to grow and be the next factor at Harpeth Hall.    Dyersburg vs. South Gibson   Player to Watch:    Fast twitch motion guard who can slice to the rim with ease. Has a phenomenal pull-up game where she can utilize her quick first step and rise above any contested hand. She has cat-like instincts where on the defensive end, she capitalizes off lazy passes by jumping the gaps and taking it the other way for an easy layup. She is a super-talented kid, and it is evident in her style of play.    PCA vs. Huntington   Player to Watch:    Slowly coming into her own, she can be used down low in the painted area, in the mid-range, and will occasionally step out on the perimeter and shoot the 3-ball. Her size enables her to contribute on the boards on both ends, giving her team second chances and eliminating second-shot attempts for opponents. Her length enables her to block shots, which normally forces teams not to take good shots. She is still growing (literally,) and her game is evolving even more as she plays with each contest.    Ezell- Harding vs. Summertown   Player to Watch:    Sensational lefty guard who has a sweet stroke fron the field. Can play the 1 or 2. She's a heady ball player that picks her spots to exploit. She can run the offense efficiently, thread the needle with her passes. She steps it up on the defensive end, causing problems as she strikes fiercely to poke balls away. A talented kid who is going to be an asset at the next level.      Gibson Co. vs. Lincoln Co.   Player to Watch:    Bigger wing that can get it done. Doesn't matter if it's on the perimeter or inside around the paint, she raises up and over opponents to hit shots. She is a heady ballplayer who exploits multiple spots a game. She's a tough out as she is a gym rat who works on her craft and studies the game. She knows who the weaker defenders are and will go at them, giving her team an edge. Abby is multitalented and is someone to keep tabs on.    USJ vs. GCA- Knoxville   Player to Watch:    Super tough kid who is a grinder. An efficient ballplayer who can score at will, but also will feed the hot hands of her teammates. She can defend like crazy and always seems to be in the right spot at the right time to contribute to her club. Doesn't matter what end of the floor she is on, she is impactful and plays with relentless effort.    Now that we have covered the matchups and players to watch, let's get right into the action.   Game 1                        1  2  3  4  OT  F   Clarksville Christian      1  0  1 0   0    2   Westview                       0  1  0 1  1    3   After a fierce battle that saw Clarksville Christian dominate the painted area early, Westview prevails as they force tournaments down the stretch to seal the victory in overtime.   Game 2             1  2  3  4    OT  F   Ensworth           1  0  1  0      1   3   North Greene     0  1  0  1     0   2   Solid matchup where the two teams traded buckets early and often. Both ended up winning two quarters in regulation. However, Ensworth came out on top as they got it done in OT.   Game 3             1  2  3  4  OT F   Harpeth Hall      1  1  0  0   0   2   Loretto               0  0  1  1   1   3   Harpeth Hall started the game out on a tear. However, it was the Lady Mustangs who made the halftime adjustments and got the win by sending the game into overtime.   Game 4             1  2  3  4  F   South Gibson    0  1  0  0  1   Dyersburg         1  0  1  1  3   Dyersburg utilized their speed to create chaos and force South Gibson into some tight jams. South Gibson did throw a haymaker, but the combo Dyersburg possesses was just too much to overcome.   Game 5             1  2  3  4  F   Huntgington      0  0  0  1  1   PCA                  1  1  1  0  0   PCA dominated the game early, pounding it inside. Huntington did try to make a late surge, but it was just too late as the Lady Lions took care of business.   Game 6             1  2  3  4  F   Summertown    1  0  0  0  1   Ezell-Harding    0  1  1  1  3   Summertown came out the gates strong. Ezell buckled down on the defensive end and turned up the pressure. Ezell advances to the next round.   Game 7             1  2  3  4    OT  F   Lincoln Co.        1  0  1  0     0   2   Gibson Co.        0  1  0  1     1   3   Tight game going back and forth with both of these ball clubs. The game went into OT where Gibson Co. stepped it up and got the job done.   Game 8             1  2  3  4   OT  F   GCA- Knoxville  1  0  1  0    0   2   USJ                    0  1  0  1    1  3   Top notch game that had a lot of dynamic guard play on the floor. The game was a big-tussel match as each squad tried to one-up the other. In the end, it took an overtime effort for USJ to finish on top.
