Yesterday was my first full day of AAU basketball this spring and summer. I have multiple kids I'd like to highlight from yesterday, but we're dealing with the 17U age level today.

I liked Gardner last year with her [program_tooltip program_id='716192' first='Wolverinas' last=''] group. As a 5'11 wing who can make plays on the defensive end of the floor, she can help a program win games at the next level. The Illinois native excelled in her team's full-court press and earned herself a handful of deflections throughout the day. There is more to her offensive game than we see with her team. Playing with high-end kids who'll earn, or have earned, scholarships to play at the next level, she doesn't have to score as much as other kids in her position. She's productive.

[player_tooltip player_id='743735' first='Kourtlyn' last='Guy']

I've always been a fan of Guy's defensive potential. The Milwaukee Academy of Science guard has all the tools to be one of the premier defensive kids in her class, and she's making strides to becoming someone in that class of player. However, I feel her offensive game is becoming more polished as the years go by. Guy showed she could get her shot off the dribble, which I haven't seen from her much before, which is encouraging as she heads into the spring and summer.

[player_tooltip player_id='533062' first='Tay' last='Maass']

The Appleton native did some positive things in her time in Bedford Park. Maass played against some solid scholarship-level post-kids and more than held her own. Her physicality and footwork opened up space for herself around the rim. At times, shots didn't fall for her, but how she got to her shots is repeatable because she did it against kids who have earned offers. Maass is a kid I've been high on, and she didn't do anything to dissuade me from that opinion in Bedford Park. I'd recommend regional programs take a look at Maass.

[player_tooltip player_id='540647' first='Francesca' last='McLain']

The Kenosha St. Joe's guard had an excellent close to the day on Saturday. She shot the ball well and showed her versatility on the defensive end. McLain is a physical kid who can handle opposing fours and fives occasionally and can use her body to keep opposing ball handlers in front of her. McLain knocked down a handful of three-pointers in that game as well. She's an intriguing kid in her class who could help a program at the next level on both ends of the floor.
