The Match Up: OK Select vs CyFair Thompson

Checking in on Oklahoma prospects from this past weekend Heart of Texas event, via the game archives from the BeTheBeast streaming service. In this case, it was only the second half (limited by streaming service difficulties) of [program_tooltip program_id='714872' first='Oklahoma' last='Select'] for CyFair Thompson in the 17U Divison. With the limited viewing, it also led to going back and checking some for each team in previous games.    Rice played more on the ball and excelled on both ends of the floor. Starts on defense where her long arms, high activity level, and the deflections she racked up in the press. Attacked the deflected passes, often gathering up steals, leading to easy points for herself and her teammates. Especially with her willingness to pitch it ahead with outlets and other transition feeds. Good handles, uses her height and size advantage to protect the ball. Played through bumps and swipes from defenders. All while she played at her own pace. Showed some range from distance as well. Really good showing from a prospect who looks to be expanding her all around game.     Produced a strong off the ball scoring punch in the second half of Select's win. Knocked down shooter when left alone from deep, including a few steps beyond the high school line. Smart offensive contributor overall, ran down a loose ball that was going out of bounds and made a save which went directly to a teammate for a three pointer. Savvy guard who picked her spots well, including a late coast to coast take to help ice the game.     The anchor for a team filled with guards. Heiskell made an impact via offensive rebounding and her teammates finding in her the paint or out to the free throw line for mid-range jumpers. An impressive aspect was how she closed the game strong, which was also the last of four games for the weekend. She kept popping up on the glass, kept contesting and blocking shots. Scored quickly and decisively before she could be swarmed by smaller foes. To see a post continue to compete even when her legs had to be getting tired is impressive. And a credit to how she will likely continue to work at the next level.     Heady point guard, who had some fun flashes with her vision and reading of the game. Looked to have strong end to end speed on stream, along with good short area quickness. Froze a pair of defenders in transition with what looked to be eye manipulation to her open teammates, and then got a clean look at the rim because of it. Like the traditional point guard aspects and feel to her game.     Eaton continues to fill it up from deep, with efficient and timely off the ball shooting. Hit a pair in second half action vs Select, and also another pair in the other contest watched. Doesn't look to force bad looks, getting hers in the flow of the offense. Has been on a tear this spring and continued it in Texas. Shooters with momentum and confidence are always scary for the opposition to deal with.
