She defends at a high level, being able to hold her own against opposing players and cause turnovers for the other team. She earned honorable mention in her league this season and should see her role be increased next year as a junior. She does a great job reading the opposing players and is able to get her hands involved in the pass lanes with ease to cause havoc for the other team. Even with that, Malia was able to be named second team all conference for her performance on the court as a sophomore. She excelled in the defensive side of the ball, showing defense leads to offense and providing energy to her teammates. Offensively, she can really shoot the ball. DeForrest is a quick guard who likes to run the floor in transition but also can slow down the pace of the game and go through the offense and hit shots when left open.
