Baden Summer Showcase: Senior Standout Guards (Pt 2)

These guards made some lasting impressions and have our eyes as they prepare for a big winter season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='753673' first='Kessa' last='Nohr'] | 5'11 SG | Sumner</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Continued to be a key floor spacer who can force defenses to extend way back, but also showed some great spatial awareness and ability to make quick reads to attack the defense where it was most vulnerable. In their game against Juanita, the middle was wide open and she made some great flashes from the weak side that led to buckets until the defense adjusted.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='502396' first='Sophia' last='Eastman'] | 5'10 | SG | Sammamish</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Tough lefty guard who was one of the more poised guards operating with the rock I saw over the weekend. Took advantage of some space to pull up with floaters in the paint, was able to stretch the floor with her 3-point shot, and overall looked comfortable attacking any direction at different paces. Worked hard on the defensive end too, and was a positive communicator.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='580529' first='Giselle' last='Dollar'] | 5'6 | PG | Roosevelt</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Dollar continued to show an aggressive approach to the game on both ends, using quick crossovers to get to driving lanes and constantly getting on the floor going after loose balls. Showed great awareness to quickly identify cutters and shooters off of the catch or hustle rebounds, and showed off some poised finishing around defenders at the rim.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='832605' first='Sara' last='Mangan'] | 5'8 | PG | Southridge (OR)</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Mangan has a pure stroke from 3-point range, but she does a lot before the shot that helps get the ball into good spots. Made some nice, quick posts on middle cuts, was great moving without the ball, and looked a threat each time she caught the ball using jabs and ball fakes. Also made some great one-handed passes into space to shift the defense and create some flow to the offense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1049383' first='Bailey' last='Petrin'] | 5'8 | PG | Bothell</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Did some nice creating with the rock over the weekend and was pretty effective beating her defender off the dribble and getting penetration. Was great at opening her hips up along the perimeter to set up blow-bys. Used change of speeds and hesitation dribbles to attack gaps, open up space for teammates, and slip past some backcourt pressure.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='663652' first='Charlotte' last='Lipkin'] | 5'9 | CG | Bothell</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>She's a tough guard who saw a bunch of extra defenders step up whenever she got near the paint. She did well early on to feel the help and quickly move the ball. Was really strong rebounding the rock on both ends and showed us what else she can bring to the floor to complement her prolific scoring.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1226290' first='Rhenna' last='Hung'] | 5'7 | PG | Issaquah</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Energetic guard who got a number of early deflections and steals in their game against King's. Showed some key ability to attack gaps and get some paint touches with quick outside moves, and had some impressive paint finishes with defenders closing in.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='928029' first='Kiana' last='Skogstad'] | 5'6 | PG | Bellevue Christian</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Made some great passes over the top of the defense with touch and from various distances. Made great reads and anticipation of off-ball defenders to hit backdoors on overplays. She also showed a good stroke from outside, hitting several threes.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1049380' first='Anna' last='Mock'] | 5'10 | SG | Mercer Island</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Mock's a taller guard who did a lot of her work coming in from the perimeter. Had a quick, strong first step that helped her get an advantage on her defender time and again. She used that first step to get defenders retreating too, which helped set up her midrange pull-up.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1226982' first='Kaliyah' last='Miller'] | 5'7 | CG | Gig Harbor</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Showed off some impressive ability from 3-point range, hitting shots off the bounce going both ways, and doing so under some tight contests and in big spots in the game. Miller had a big responsibility handling the rock for the Tides and was under a lot of pressure, but she found some nice skip passes to get the ball in space and force the pressure to dissipate.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
