Central (Dutch) College out of Iowa is hosting their annual Team Summer Camp next week on the 12th. They have some programs coming in to compete with some impressive prospects, thorough coaching, and a whole lot of talent!

Below we highlight five programs that I'll be keeping my eye on during this event to see what they bring to the hardwood. It's summer and it's really early on but it's always nice to see where programs are at.

There are high hopes for the CCA Clippers coming into this upcoming Winter season. They will have their top dawgs as Seniors at the front of the pack in [player_tooltip player_id='509225' first='Averie' last='Lower'] and [player_tooltip player_id='782232' first='Lena' last='Evans']. If those two can do what they are capable of and everyone else follows suit, they should make some waves throughout the 4A Class over these next 6-8 months. The Clippers also bring in an entirely new coaching staff so I imagine that they will compete with a different system in place on both sides of the ball. If they do that efficiently, the possibilities of where they could take things is endless. Summer ball is always a different time but it's nice to see what teams have at this point so it'll be interesting to see this crew go to work.

Ankeny Centennial

Ankeny Centennial is going to be a team we learn a lot about at this event because they will only be returning four players from their Varsity team last Winter, along with a new Head Coach. Centennial has had powerhouse players from years now so it wouldn't surprise me if they have a young prospect come out of nowhere and take over. Like I mentioned, they will have a handful of players returning from last year so those four will be crucial to their process and their overall results at the end of the day. Experience can take you place but it's never bad to have a young line up. I'm just hoping the Jaguars are locked in mentally so they can put together a foundation year to build on moving forward with their new pieces.

Ankeny

I'm expecting a big year out of Ankeny High School. They will return [player_tooltip player_id='342205' first='Jayla' last='Williams'] as their leader but they also bring in a promising 2029 Class. A Class that might be more impactful for this program than some might think. Williams has been this team's soul on both sides of the ball for years now. She continues to gain Power4 interest on the road this AAU season and that's going to lead her to some amazing places in the end. When you have someone like that taking over consistently and willing their team's to victory, it's impactful and a lot of collegiate programs around the country are seeing that. This Varsity program went 10-13 last year overall but they should be able to turn that around this season. They just need to play their game.

Gilbert

The Gilbert Tigers are coming off of a 13-10 record throughout their 2024-2025 High School season. Coming into this Summer, everyone will look to their leader and PG, [player_tooltip player_id='833953' first='Callie' last='Hales'] to make a lasting impact. Hales can make it happen. She plays with a chip on her shoulder and really competes in the right way in general. She isn't selfless unless she needs to be, playing more as a pass-first PG who has to score at a consistent rate. Hales and [player_tooltip player_id='833964' first='Kayla' last='Rash'] will be two names they return that have some experience at the Varsity level. If they can go out and light the nets on fire, Gilbert should be in position for an even better season than last Winter.

Des Moines Roosevelt

To have a successful year, program, season, whatever you want to call it - you need a connection. The players need one to each other, the coaches need one to the players, and the coaches need one with the other coaches. Des Moines Roosevelt should have a good connection with the product they will bring to the floor. There are always moving pieces but they will have [player_tooltip player_id='766456' first='Malaina' last='Hackley'] back to PG leading the charge, they have a nice 2029 coming in that many don't know about, and they have some solid coaching. All things that should lead to success. I'm excited to see what they do on Wednesday. It's tough competition so it should stack up nicely.
