Coach Laura Harper and her impressive staff put together two camp sessions over the weekend that drew 65 players in each one. I had a chance to cover the second session which was very lively and energetic overall. Coach Harper and Coach Lorie Khalil kept the pressure on the players to keep their energy up during drills and the games, so my featured players will be the ones who did that. Not every player showed up to play hard which is pretty amazing considering where they were.

This was a really good day for Gabrielle. She was a physical presence due to her size and the intangibles she brought. She established good post position, boxed out strong, set good screens and used her impressive wingspan on defense to alter shots.

Tegan looks like she has grown since I last saw her. She's about 6'4" and moves really well for size. She rebounded the ball well and made it difficult for anyone trying to get to the basket. Her offense is still emerging, but she made all the easy shots she needed to make.

Isabella was probably my favorite player to watch during the camp. She's a big guard with strong ball handling skills and deceptive speed and quickness. She has a great balance of power and finesse in her game and is a very crafty scorer. She is an excellent finisher with both hands and she really had her way with anyone trying to defend her. She played great on ball defense as well.

Tierney caught my eye because she was going harder than just about anyone else. I could tell she did not want to lose any of the meaningless scrimmages they were playing. She scrapped on defense and used her athleticism to her advantage. She showed good upper body strength and made some shots through contact. Good day for her.

[player_tooltip player_id='788072' first='Kayden' last='McDaniel'], Glenelg Country School, New World, 2027 Guard

Kayden's jumper wasn't falling but she was still able to show why she's a professional scorer. She got to the basket easily and showed off her finishing package. She has great footwork and touch and can finish with both hands. I was very impressed with her efforts on defense as she was locking up on the ball and getting her hands into the passing lanes.
