Before the grassroots season resumes, a number of teams made a trip to the Midlands for one final June tune-up. Lexington hosted its Play Day event at Pleasant Hill MS with mostly 5A teams – plus a SCISA 4A team participating.

We at Prep Girls Hoops were also on hand for the day's festivities at the home of the Pleasant Hill Cougars. We begin our recap of the day's play by examining a few of the standout guards that were on hand.

Any collegiate coach that is in need of a 3-point specialist ought to give this veteran star from Rock Hill a look. As proficient as Hudson can be from behind the arc, long-range attempts can be like layups for her. Hudson has had games in the past against top-tier competition where she has drained multiple triples a game. Hudson can also display that she is more than merely a markswoman from deep. She is a skilled ball handler who attracts plenty of attention from defenses – attention that can open things up for her teammates. While looking to pass, she can also throw defenses off with her rim-attacking capabilities and has embraced the role as an on-court leader for her team.

The presence of Harry can be scary for Lexington opponents. Harry will be entering her junior campaign with 5A Division 1 Lexington and will once again be an important piece to the winning puzzle that is coach Molly Goodrich's Wildcats. Even though Harry is listed as a two guard, she displayed an ability to make plays in the interior. She is also unafraid of contact which can place her at the free throw line. Making plays in transition is another positive element to her much-developed game and the defense she can play – including to prevent opposing team inbounds passes – can also frustrate many an adversary.

Those that have watched Lexington throughout the month of June are getting a glimpse of what coach Molly Goodrich's squad will resemble when we begin play for real this November. Braidi is one of the many playmakers that Wildcats opponents will have to deal with. The rising junior for Lexington is more of a point guard than a two but she has the ability to place points on the scoreboard from all three levels. Her ability to collect steals is another element to her game that can frustrate many an adversary and she is as every bit as proficient a passer as she is a scorer.

Any team that is in need of an accurate deep threat can certainly count on Bobseine to get the job done from downtown. The 2025-26 version of the Wildcats will bring plenty of experience to the table and this rising junior will be part of that equation. Teams that typically win at the rate Lexington does usually have a 3-point shooting dimension to their offenses and Goodrich provides that. Bobseine fills the role perfectly of a two guard. Bobseine is a multi-sport athlete who has also participated in track and field events throughout her athletic career and there are attributes that can certainly translate well between the two sports.

Lytes can make an opponent's aspirations of victory look very dark. The phrase “two-way player” sometimes gets thrown around a bit too loosely. It actually does apply to Lytes. She adds plenty of experience to Lexington as she will be entering her senior season when we tip things off for real in November. As she has gained more of that experience, one can see the progress she has made as a player. In addition to what she can get accomplished as an offensive player, her defense can lead to her offense. Lytes is the type of talent that can come away with a steal on one end, then go the other way to attack the rim, finish strong and earn an and-one opportunity. One more season of hi-Lytes should lead to many more Wildcats wins when the winter months arrive.
