In fact, even after the high school campaign has arrived and departed, many noteworthy prospects from the 2027 and younger classes are preparing for another season on the grassroots circuit.

One can expect for the numerous top-tier names among the 2029 class to display impressive performances over the next several months of travel ball. With our new 2029 rankings having been released, we turn our attention to a few of the point, shooting and combo guards to watch among this season's freshman class.

Aficionados of Greenville have become accustomed to winning basketball as of late and that should continue as long as Jaminet continues to sport a Red Raiders uniform. One of the premier freshman guards, she was a key reason why the Red Raiders concluded its 2025-26 campaign as 5A Division 2 Upper State champions. Jaminet played in all 29 games this past season for Greenville and averaged 9.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. She will look to translate this momentum from what was a banner season for the Red Raiders into a solid travel campaign with HER Elite. Greenville will move back down to 4A beginning with the 2026-27 season.

Even with change at the top of Ridge View's girls basketball program with coach Aaron Lucas serving in the stead of Terrence Gibson (now at Brookland-Cayce), one thing did not change – the Blazers winning games. Ferguson has more experience than the average freshman considering she first played at the varsity level as a seventh grader. Her development has continued to go in the right direction. In 2025-26, Ferguson played in 23 games and averaged 10.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.2 steals per contest. The AAU season awaits where Ferguson will wear the [program_tooltip program_id='783909' first='Palmetto' last='76ers/A'ja Wilson Elite'] uniform.

With the basketball season in the rear-view mirror, a good portion of Patterson's athletic attention has turned to softball. Patterson, who has also played at the varsity level in basketball since the seventh grade, was part of a 2A Clinton team that finished its 2025-26 season with a robust 27-2 record and a berth in the Upper State semifinals. She averaged six points in the 28 games she played in this past season. Patterson has established herself as one of the premier young 3-point specialists in the Palmetto State. The Red Devils have put together 20-win seasons in back-to-back years.

This past season would see Wando claim the 5A Division 1 Lower State championship – and get within one contest shy of winning state for the first time since 1980. McKevitt's play was key in the Warriors' success throughout the last few months. The freshman guard was the Warriors' leading scorer in 2025-26 averaging 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She tallied nine points when Wando took on Blythewood in this month's 5A Division 1 state championship game at Colonial Life Arena. McKevitt is looking ahead to this year's travel season where she will be part of [program_tooltip program_id='783909' first='Palmetto' last='76ers/A'ja Wilson Elite'].

The Gators improved from eight wins two years ago to 12 wins in 2025-26 in one of the toughest regions in the state. Childers would compete in 25 games this past season with River Bluff and averaged 7.6 points as well as 2.4 rebounds, 2.3 steals and two assists per contest. Childers has also competed in cross country throughout her athletic career and first played at the varsity level when she was in the seventh grade.
Mauldin is a recent 5A state winner and put together another solid season in 2025-26 where the Mavericks were 5A Division 1 Upper State finalists. It presents a young core that will likely solidify the Mavs' contender status for the next several seasons. Aiken would wear the Mauldin uniform in 25 games this past season averaging 9.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals per contest. A high watermark of her 2025-26 campaign occurred at the She Got Next MLK Showcase that was held at nearby J.L. Mann. Aiken led her team with 30 points as the Mavericks put together a dominant 65-22 performance against a young Ben Lippen team that advanced to the Lower State finals of the SCISA 4A tournament.

Ligon is another name from that young Mauldin core that will ensure the Mavericks remain one of the toughest outs in the state. She would play in 26 games this past season while averaging 7.3 points, 3.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. Ligon has finished up her third season playing at the varsity level and is already drawing a bevy of collegiate interest. Presbyterian, Augusta University, Erskine College and Anderson have all extended offers in the direction of this young and talented guard. Ligon was among the three freshmen that were part of the 2025-26 version of the Mavericks.
