USE CODE "tinnon30" FOR 30% OFF THE FIRST PURCHASE OF ANY SUBSCRIPTION

Have you all heard the term Monday Morning Quarterback? Well I would like to propose the term Monday Morning Head Coach. Haha. I know we are all coming off the July grind period and trying to get back to somewhat of a routine. For some reason this morning, I had the thought of what if I were a head coach at a university. Unsure what level, but we all know D1s have the most resources and really could get any pick of the litter. What if you were a low tier school, I mean what resources and time would you allocate to recruiting?

The thing is, when I look at all the many prospects we have here in the state, we have a wide array of talent. When you think of certain states, some states have an identity per se. When I think of Kentucky, I think of shooters. Same for Indiana. Think of Georgia, hoopers who are aggressive to the rim. When it comes to this state, we have a nice blend of talent. It's funny, back in the day, you could pick out who the shooter was or someone who can get saucy with the ball. Nowadays, you just never know. Going back to the thought of being a collegiate coach, you truly have to have a plan and know what you are looking for. When recruiting in this state, you can pretty much get what you need. We have size, shooters, ballhandlers, gritty competitors, speed, rebounders, shot blockers ( more or less), pull up specialist, and truly just some good ballplayers who can play on both ends of the floor.

I'm not going to categorize these girls, but let's take a look at some PGs from the different classes to kind of get a picture of what I am talking about.

A true floor general who can do it all. I will say depending on the opponent, you are going to get something different. This kid can do it all and let me explain. She is a heady floor general who can be a traditionalist. However, she can attack gaps to finish at the rim or facilitate the rock to hit an open teammate. If she needs to exploit the perimeter, she can do that as well. Pull up 3, let the play develop and get it back on the rotation to knock down the shot. My point is this kid isn't a one trick pony, but someone who can be lethal in multiple ways. A heady ballplayer who is going to be a tough outing no matter who or when.

In my opinion, she is a magician with the ball. She is going to give you a little flare to her game. She is going to carve you up, hitting you with a combo move prior to her attacking the gap. She has a nice feel for where the help will be coming from and adapting to the situation. She will drop dimes with ease, throwing it cleanly or passing it behind her back. She will shoot it as well, so you can't sleep on that part of her game. A multi-level scoring threat who just hoops. This get is special and one that elevates the play of those around her.

A bucket getter. A shifty PG who is special with the ball in her hands. Yes she gets others involved, but my goodness when she has the rock, something special is about to happen. She can create for herself, utilize the screen game effortlessly, change speeds in the open floor to get to favorable spots. There is a reason why this kid is going to be a P4 player. She is a ballplayer who is tough to bottle up.

Old school junkyard dawg who can run an offense efficiently, but thrive on the defensive end. She's Chris Paul type offensively, where she goes out and controls the tempo of the game. For hoopers, she is the 1st go round of Clipper's Chris Paul so let me clarify. She can get a bucket, but she is going to feed those around her within the framework of the offense and the timing. When it's her turn, she gets it. She can dominate if she must, but her thing is to feed the beasts around her.

Shifty kid who can thread the needle. A dynamic ballhandler, she is going to change speeds and attack downhill, utilizing her quick first step. She can knock down the mid-range and 3 ball at a high clip as well, but getting down hill is her thing. Her best trait, passing the ball in transition. She's going to hit the open girl, throw it through traffic either on a bounce or over the top. She's the type of girl who would play QB for her flag football team. Solid kid who plays with an edge on both ends of the floor.

When you think of this young lady you think about her poise with the basketball. She too is shifty, hitting opponents with combo moves as she attacks. It's impressive how she commands an offense, keeping her head up, knowing when to strike or slow down the tempo. She hunts for great opportunities. She can score from all three levels, but her main thing is running the offense and getting the ball into the hot hands.

She's a combination of a secret blend. A kid who can score at a high clip from all three levels, facilitate the rock, lockdown on D, and really just command the offense. Whatever you need, she is going to go out and get it. She can change speeds, push the rock in transition, and run the offense effectively in the half court. If you need her to go get a bucket, she can do that. If you need her to run whatever set, she excels at that as well. An all around PG who is one of the best in her class.

Now that you get the picture, each of these young ladies are talented in their own right. These are just a few girls who we have to offer in this state. If I were a collegiate coach, I would have a tough time picking kids. One would say they need all the qualities mentioned in these players. Now that I think about it, If I were a coach it would be fun trying to stack my team with Tennessee talent. I may just need to stick with fantasy basketball because there is no way I could decide one who to get. This state is a recruiting ground for coaches and it keeps getting better and better. Hints, look at the various options I just mentioned. One could have a field day trying to decide. Keep tabs on all players and PGs. Our state has whatever you are looking for.
