Basketball Breakout Stars: Hidden Gems to Watch this Season

To see it click, the light bulbs turn on, when that player starts to feel a certain way, it's exciting as they go through the process. When you play this sport, it's a daily grind. It's something you just can't show up for and think you can be ready for competition (unless you are Allen Iverson). You have to be consistent at your craft and also learn to ride the highs as well as the lows.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Throughout our state, we have girls whose lights have turned on. These young ladies are just a few hidden gems we have, but their light is shining bright. This upcoming year, these young ladies will have taken themselves from a kid who plays sparingly to a significant role player. She establishes herself on the low block, gaining position to make a back-to-the-basket move to score. She can exploit other mid-range areas, but scoring off the initial entry feed and then getting offensive boards is something she prides herself on. Defensively, she is physical. She controls the boards and works hard in the paint. She will be an important piece for the Lady Patriots ball club this year. She may not solely score the rock, but you better believe she is going to win second-chance opportunities and battle each possession. A fearless young lady who can defend the 1-3 positions. Offensively, she will attack downhill or spot up on the perimeter and knock it down. She has a sweet lefty stroke that, when she is locked in, it's hard to slow her down. She is starting to be more aggressive, and when it all comes full circle, she's going to be hard to contain. Built with great size, she can work inside, but makes her money on the exterior. She can score from all three levels consistently, but it's her length on the defensive end that poses as a threat. This kid is a gym rat, and when it's time to compete, she's going all in, giving 110%. Look for her to have a breakout season where she will have double-double games more often than not. She can pull it from the arc, but slicing through gaps is her specialty. She is great at changing speeds, drawing two in order to kick out to open shooters, and really running the offense efficiently, hunting advantageous shot attempts. She works tirelessly on the defensive end, where she keeps opponents in front, getting steals and deflections. She has earned her way towards obtaining significant playing time, and you better believe she is going to embrace the moment. Lane is a hardworking kid who is going to give it all she has. She can play with her back to the basket, but also stretch the floor and knock down the 3-ball. She is scrappy; she will be on the boards, diving for loose balls, and defending like crazy. She will bring the physicality for the Lady Mustangs program, also bringing tons of energy and effort to the floor.
