Next Generation of Girls’ Basketball Stars

They had a song called “Batter up.” Don't ask why or what possessed me to think of that song, but how I am going to equate that tune to this article is puzzling, so let me explain. Obviously, we are hooping and not playing baseball/softball. What I am saying is this: it's the next lady up, as this season will be a big year for a lot of girls.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This upcoming season, I am expecting a ton of girls to answer the bell and step up for their ball clubs. Whatever the case may be or whatever the role, you are going to see an influx of girls jump onto the scene and grab hold of this opportunity. There will be a changing of the guard, sort of speak, or some new schools coming into conversations as they look to grab a piece of the district crown and look towards state contention. Aaliyah is a kid who can spot up along the arc, but also put it on the floor to go get a bucket. She is solid on the defensive end, scrappy, and will make the extra effort plays, such as saving a loose ball from going out of bounds. She stays in the gym working on her craft. She can score it from multiple levels, handle the rock, attack downhill, and create space to shoot off the dribble. She's long, has great speed, and contributes in multiple facets of the game. She has had a great summer ball season and will be an important piece to the WC program. This kid is a player. Aggressive. Solid on both ends of the floor. Someone who can score, defend, and really be impactful. She will be battle-tested early, but look for her to not only withstand the pressure, but give it herself. She will be a solid addition to the GH program. With some seasoning, this young lady is going to be a steal for this team. She is a scoring machine who can knock it down from the arc at a consistent clip. If you try and run her off the line, she won't hesitate to put the ball on the floor, hit you with a counter move, and finish a the rim. She will lock up on the defensive end and grab boards as well. She had a tremendous summer ball season. Her confidence is there. Defensively, she isn't afraid to bang down low and prevent opponents from establishing their presence. She blocks shots, rebounds, secures any loose balls with two hands, and will start transition breaks. Offensively, she can play with her back to the basket or stretch the floor, knocking down the outside shot at a consistent clip. She has a nice mid-range game on her as well and won't hesitate to create on her own.
