It may not officially be basketball season just yet, but that does not mean the basketball calendar is slowing down. After all, it is a year-round schedule and showcase events take up the lion's share of said schedule for the ensuing several weeks following the conclusion of the travel season.

One of those events is a new gathering to the Palmetto State as several talents from around the state convened on the Pearl Moore Center in Florence to take part in the Passion Driven Showcase.

There was a number of coaches from the college ranks on hand with players being sorted into teams coached by Bree Goodson (Trinity Collegiate), Shaquetta Cooper (Lake City), Jordan Leath (River Bluff) and Justin Johnson (Manning).

We at Prep Girls Hoops also made the trip to the Pee Dee for the first-ever Passion Driven Showcase. We conclude our coverage of the inaugural event by looking at frontcourt stars mostly from the 2027 class with a mention of a big name 2029 from the area.

Murray did not have a far distance to travel to arrive at the Pearl Moore Center given the Pee Dee is her home base. Murray made news during the offseason by announcing she would transfer from 4A Wilson to Trinity Collegiate – defending 4A SCISA champions which are moving to 3A. Murray was part of Team Cooper this past weekend. As a defender, Murray can match an opposing ball handler step for step and knows how to get her hand up to negatively affect the trajectory of an opponent's shot. Her frame, stature and talent make her a tall task to handle when she has the ball in her hand, and she will get in position to corral plenty of rebounds. Murray averaged 19.6 points, 8.4 boards and 3.8 steals last season with the Tigers.

Shaw knows how to exploit an opposing team's flaws. A dual sport athlete who has played both basketball and softball throughout her career, Do not be fooled by the fact that Shaw primarily plays in the frontcourt – she can handle the rock as if she were a point guard and can get from one end of the court to the other quickly with the ball in her hand. Shaw knows how to finish strong in the rim and has no problems drawing contact that can place her at the free throw line. She posted career numbers last season at 2A Kingstree averaging a double-double of 18.6 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 3.1 assists in 28 games for the Blazers. Shaw was named MVP of the weekend's event by the coaches on hand, leading Team Johnson to the 5-on-5 championship.

At an even six feet, Foley was one of the taller prospects on hand at this past weekend's Passion Driven Showcase. She is entering her junior season with 5A Division 1 Ashley Ridge and is coming off running with FBC Reign 2027 on the AAU trail. Foley, part of Team Cooper this past weekend, can play at the wing with her ability to operate in a team's lineup as either a two or a three. When she attacks the rim is when she is particularly dangerous but that is the case for her as well when she has the ball behind the 3-point arc. Those 3-pointers can also be of the old-fashioned variety and she also plays effective perimeter defense.

It was only fitting that one of the 2029s on hand at showcase that featured plenty of seniors and juniors hailed from right up the road at 4A South Florence. Bostick, part of Team Goodson, stands at 5-foot-11 and more than belongs on the same court against more experienced competition. When watching her play, one may think she is a senior or a junior. Bostick will make plenty of plays in the interior on both offense and defense. She also does not shy away from contact that can place her at the free throw line and is ready to box out in case of an opposing player's missed free throw. She averaged 14.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.3 blocks last season as an eighth grader for the Bruins.
