The Class of 2028 in Kansas girls basketball is already showing flashes of future stardom, with several young guards stepping onto the varsity stage and making their presence felt. From early varsity contributors to showcase standouts, these freshmen are beginning to carve out their identities as playmakers, scorers, and defensive anchors. Here's a closer look at four promising guards, each with unique skill sets and plenty of upside, that coaches and fans should keep an eye on as their high school careers unfold.

Spring Hill freshman guard Adeline McConnell is already making waves, earning a spot on the varsity roster in her first year of high school. At 5-foot-7, McConnell brings versatility to the backcourt, showing the ability to play both shooting guard and point guard roles. While her varsity stat line is still developing, her early involvement at the high school level speaks volumes about her basketball IQ, fundamentals, and competitive drive. With continued development in scoring efficiency, decision-making, McConnell is a name to keep an eye on as she progresses through her high school career. Coaches will appreciate her adaptability, work ethic, and the foundation she's laying as part of the Class of 2028.

Mill Valley freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id='1243527' first='Quincy' last='Rae Long'] brings versatility to the backcourt with her ability to run the point or step into a scoring role. At 5-foot-5, Long combines quickness with adaptability, giving her value as both a playmaker and shooter. She competes with [program_tooltip program_id='715643' first='Kansas' last='Elite'], one of the region's stronger club programs, which provides her with high-level competition. Long's skillset and club experience point to a bright future as she is in the beginning of her high school career. With continued growth in decision-making, shooting consistency, and game film exposure, Long is a Class of 2028 guard that coaches will want to keep on their radar moving forward.

Blue Valley Southwest freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id='1242485' first='Natalie' last='Workizer'] is beginning to make her mark as part of the Class of 2028. She turned heads at the Hardwood Classic, where she poured in 14 points during a showcase performance that highlighted her scoring ability and composure in a competitive environment. While her exposure to varsity is yet to be seen it is only a matter of time before she begins making an impact. With continued development in ball handling, shooting consistency, and on-court decision-making, Workizer is a guard to keep an eye on as she grows into a bigger role at Blue Valley Southwest.

Basehor-Linwood's [player_tooltip player_id='1264441' first='Delaney' last='Wittkop'] is quickly establishing herself as one of the more versatile guards in the Class of 2028. Last year, she aaveraged 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and an impressive 4.5 steals per game, Wittkop impacts every area of the floor. Her defensive instincts stand out most, racking up steals at a high clip while also serving as a playmaker who keeps her teammates involved. That well-rounded production earned her Second Team All-Conference honors in the United Kansas Conference this past season. With continued growth in shooting consistency and ball security, Wittkop's mix of defensive energy, playmaking, and scoring makes her a player to watch closely as she develops into a leader for Basehor-Linwood.
