Last weekend, in Appleton, we had our third PGH Freshman Showcase. I enjoy seeing the new faces of high school basketball before the season, and plenty of players at the event will make their mark on the high school season this winter. Today, we're discussing all the players from Team Eight of the 5v5 portion of the event and highlighting what they brought to the floor. We'll keep this up until we wrap up all ten 5v5 teams that played at the Freshman Showcase.

Clare Tutowski

I thought Tutkowski did a solid job rebounding the ball on both ends of the floor, especially on the defensive end. She is also a player who can make plays with the ball in her hands and keeps her head up whenever she dribbles. I also love her willingness to play in transition and make progressive passes that can help her team score quickly before defenses can set up.

[player_tooltip player_id='1240927' first='Scarlett' last='Woolever']

Woolever crashed the glass on both ends of the floor and set the tone of how games were going to be played in the paint. I thought she played hard whenever she was on the floor and proved that she could push the ball up the court. Her effort is something that her high school coaches will love, and will likely earn her minutes throughout her first high school season.

[player_tooltip player_id='888384' first='Kate' last='Boinski']

The Catholic Memorial guard plays well with the ball in her hands. She's a player coaches can trust to take care of the ball and make the right decisions with it. I also thought she did a solid job of protecting the ball and playing through pressure well. I also liked how willing she was to move the ball and keep the offense moving without needing to attack off the dribble. She can connect an offense and elevate the players around her.

[player_tooltip player_id='1217200' first='Camryn' last='Hoelzl']

Hoelzl didn't have the ball in her hands the majority of the time, but when she did, she was impressive. She didn't force anything with the ball in her hands, but showed that she could attack off the dribble. I also thought she spaced the floor well and used her threat to shoot off the dribble, and moved the ball well. Her best basketball is ahead. There is something about her game that makes me believe there is room for her to grow, but I can't quite explain it.
