Under the Radar Gems - PGH Freshman Showcase

The 2029 Freshman Showcase brought together 93 rising prospects on August 30th, 2025, for a jam-packed four hours of high-level competition. The event featured a mix of predetermined 3v3 and 5v5 matchups, allowing players to showcase their skills in various game settings. One of the things that sets Prep Girls Hoops showcases apart is that every participant receives individual write-ups — a rare and valuable opportunity for these young athletes. My coverage focused on Teams 1, 2, 7, 9, and 10. While the PGH Freshman Showcase featured many familiar names, there were several under-the-radar players who really caught my attention. These rising prospects showcased impressive skills, relentless effort, and smart play that stood out throughout the event. Their performances added an exciting layer to the showcase, proving that some of the best talent might still be flying just under the radar.    At the PGH Freshman Showcase, Malia used her quick first step and effective hesitation dribble to create separation off the dribble, driving into the paint and finishing strong around the rim. She displayed a keen instinct for the ball, crashing the glass from the guard position and converting second-chance points on offensive rebounds. Additionally, she knocked down multiple shots from beyond the arc, making her a versatile and consistent scoring threat. After her performance, she will no longer be considered an under-the-radar player.     At the PGH Freshman Showcase, Riley consistently attacked the basket with skill and determination, converting several tough finishes through contact around the rim. Defensively, she was active and alert, using her quick hands to generate multiple steals and disrupt opposing offenses. Beyond her aggressive play inside, Riley showed confidence from distance by knocking down a deep three from the top of the key with smooth, consistent shooting. After her performance, she's sure to no longer be considered an under-the-radar player.     Makayla impressed with her performance at the PGH Freshman Showcase, showing a promising blend of size, strength, and skill. She's a powerful post player who can stretch the floor with a smooth shooting touch from both mid-range and beyond the arc. Her motor stood out as she consistently hustled for loose balls and stayed active on both ends. With her physical tools and growing versatility, Makayla has a huge upside—and after this showing, she won't be flying under the radar much longer.     Isabella turned heads at the PGH Freshman Showcase with her impressive versatility and confident play. The long, athletic guard scored at all three levels—drilling multiple threes with ease and attacking the rim with an aggressive mindset that kept defenders on their heels. She was relentless on the boards, grabbing offensive rebounds, and her quick hands led to several steals on the defensive end. Isabella played with a high level of confidence and intensity throughout the day, and after this performance, she won't be under the radar for long.     At the PGH Freshman Showcase, Rayonna displayed a complete skill set, knocking down shots from beyond the arc and threading sharp passes to keep the offense flowing. She brought physicality on both ends of the court, powering through contact to finish inside and standing firm as a tough, disciplined defender. Her combination of skill and tenacity made her a commanding presence on the floor, and after this performance, she will no longer be considered an under-the-radar player.
