5 - Williston Coyotes

Williston is a young team that experienced a lot of success last season. They return two All-WDA players in [player_tooltip player_id='886322' first='Averi' last='Austreim'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1220781' first='Mekiah' last='Klumker']. Austreim was one of the top scorers in the West at 16.8 points per game. She was very efficient, shooting 44.9% from the field and 37.5% from three. Klumker scored 11.7 points per game last year. She was also an efficient shooter, finishing the year shooting 40.2% from the field and 32.6% from deep. These two will be the 1-2 punch for the Coyotes. [player_tooltip player_id='1048741' first='Micah' last='Fleck'] is a quality guard who can also shoot the three-ball well. [player_tooltip player_id='1154050' first='Alex' last='Austreim'] is a great third scoring option. The Coyotes will look to sneak their way into the state tournament and have enough young talent to do so.

6 - Bismarck High Demons

I really like the job Head Coach Bill Shetler has done at Bismarck High. He took over and put his brand of basketball into the program. His teams are well-coached teams that play extremely hard. Their full-court press has allowed his undersized teams to consistently compete in a tough league. I expect them to be competitive once again in 2025-2026. They only graduate two seniors off of last year's squad, but they were big contributors. I like the mix of players they have back. [player_tooltip player_id='1050247' first='Kambree' last='Neumiller'] was an All-WDA selection last season. The long guard will likely be their primary scoring option this season. Her sister [player_tooltip player_id='1050248' first='Reagan' last='Neumiller'] is another quality returner. [player_tooltip player_id='641211' first='Jordyn' last='Rood'] is a tough forward who is a great competitor. [player_tooltip player_id='1050260' first='Grace' last='Neumann'] played a ton of minutes last season and is ready to be a bigger piece of their offense this year as a junior.

7 - St. Mary Saints

The Saints were 13-11 last season and I think they will be right around that mark again this year. They will miss All-WDA selection from last season Natalie Benning but return one of the best players in the state in [player_tooltip player_id='641196' first='Mataya' last='Messer']. Messer will be a West Region Senior Athlete of the Year finalist. She committed to Division 2 powerhouse Southwest Minnesota State University, a team that would compete in nearly every Division 1 Mid Major league in the country. [player_tooltip player_id='1123922' first='Mya' last='Jones'] played a lot of minutes as a freshman last season and is a quality ball-handler for her squad. She does a great job of breaking the press and getting her team into their offense. Journey Oukrop averaged 7.4 points per game last season and will need to be St. Mary's second scoring option this year. This team has a lot of potential to win games this year and isn't a team you can look over on your schedule.
