Class 3A Mound Westonka isn't a program we've paid much attention to over the years. The White Hawks have struggled mightily in girls basketball. Last year, however, there were flickers of light emanating from the west end of Lake Minnetonka as the team in Minnetrista recorded 11 wins after just one the year before. When we saw them on the schedule for Breakdown Fall League on Sunday at Minnetonka High School, we just had to have a look. Are we ever glad we did!

PROMISING YOUNG PROSPECTS ARE EVERYWHERE

[player_tooltip player_id='1325878' first='Eve' last='Schupp'] – 2030 guard, Mound Westonka

In places like Minnetonka, Wayzata and Maple Grove there seems to be an endless supply of talented young players who have the skills and abilities and parental support needed to excel in girls basketball. It can be easy to forget about teams that don't get to the state tournament, don't appear in special events, don't get much notoriety. That would be Mound Westonka. Under third-year head coach Caitlin McKernon Sunder, however, the program is trending upward.

Last year 5'10 forward [player_tooltip player_id='998826' first='Valerie' last='Mobagi'] cracked the Prep Girls Hoops 2027 top 100 and she's been improving ever since. 2028 guard [player_tooltip player_id='992395' first='Charlotte' last='Huls'] averaged 10 points per game last season and she has also improved. With just five players on hand Sunday, it looked to be an uphill battle but the White Hawks played really, really well when we watched. It took a buzzer-beating basket for Minneapolis Southwest to steal a victory. What we saw from 2030 guard [player_tooltip player_id='1325878' first='Eve' last='Schupp'] made us sit up and take notice. We're pleased to predict that this lengthy young guard is going to do great things.

The point guard caught our attention early and held it. When she got hurt and had to leave to see the trainer, the teams continued with 4-on-4 play before Schupp returned and picked right up where she left off. Eve is just smooth, operating at her own pace and playing under control – pretty rare for an 8th grader. She looks quite advanced in her ability to lull defenders into complacency before blowing by them to score or stepping back for smooth mid-range jump shots. She's bouncy. Explosive. Deceptive. Crafty. Did we mention she can really shoot it?

We did a little homework on this intriguing talent and discovered that Eve is a gym rat who has been training intently over the past couple of years to develop a superior skill set. The 5'8 propsect is a quick study who can learn a new concept and master it quickly. After a recent growth spurt things appear to be coming together rather nicely. We also learned that mom is 5'10 and dad is 6'0, so that bodes well for the future. Schupp has really good footwork and scoring ability as her summer numbers with [program_tooltip program_id='712687' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'] 2030 Yellow will attest.

How good can Schupp be? Only time will tell. One thing we do know for sure: We'll be paying more attention to Mound Westonka going forward.

POISED FOR A BREAKTHROUGH SEASON

Tate Addler – 2028 wing, Minnetonka

One of the reasons we love Breakdown Fall League is because it often reveals who might be ready for a breakout season ahead. Watching the 6-footer from Minnetonka on Sunday, it was obvious that Tate is about to hit the big time. The Skippers' roster is deep, and new coach Dre Jefferson has an awful lot of talent to choose from. Given Addler's dominance on Sunday, it will be nearly impossible to keep the sophomore off the floor.

Tate was everywhere. Making threes. Beating helpless defenders off the bounce to score at the rim. Posting up and showing off some nice footwork to execute a drop step and score. Addler has always been impressive, of course. That's why she is a top 30 prospect in the class of 2028. Sunday she showed off greater confidence, a more assertive approach to the game, and all of the intangibles that can separate players from the pack. We'll be updating the 2028 rankings in the next week and you don't have to guess which way Addler is trending. Strong D1 mid-major colleges across the region are already having serious conversations with this prospect. Many more schools are certain to jump on the bandwagon in due course.

TAKING IT UP A NOTCH

[player_tooltip player_id='969766' first='Iona' last='MacNabb'] – 2028 guard, Richfield

Spartans coach Dez Walker has done a terrific job of building a quality program at Richfield to the point where they can attract and retain young talent and improve incrementally year over year. We watched the Spartans on Sunday and saw more good work from 2029 standout [player_tooltip player_id='1264768' first='Zuri' last='Hayes'] as well as some dynamic execution at the point guard position from MacNabb. Iona is so much fun to watch. She's bouncy with quick feet, sweet handles, a killer mid-range game and just enough swagger to be dangerous,

MacNabb had it all on display Sunday and the team demonstrated cohesive, unselfish basketball. We liked Iona all summer with [program_tooltip program_id='713420' first='Minnesota' last='Diamond Elite']. She stood out at the Prep Girls Hoops Sophomore ID Camp in September. And now she's bringing all that to the table in preparation for the high school season. As PGH scout Ally McGinnis said in her evaluation of Iona at the camp, MacNabb excels at using her high-level basketball IQ to make good decisions, take advantage of her strength and put defenders on their heels. This is a prospect on the rise.

OTHERS WHO SHOWED OUT ON SUNDAY

[player_tooltip player_id='1279505' first='Teagan' last='Jacobs'] – 2029 guard, Cretin-Derham Hall

[player_tooltip player_id='1246846' first='Nivaya' last='Koles'] – 2029 guard, Lakeville North

[player_tooltip player_id='1255487' first='Elise' last='McMillen'] – 2027 guard, Minneapolis Southwest

[player_tooltip player_id='669145' first='Lily' last='Sabers'] – 2027 guard, Providence Academy

[player_tooltip player_id='502569' first='Clara' last='Goodman'] – 2026 guard, Eastview
