The Expo MO/KS Showcase Team 4 Breakdown

The 4th and final team of the MOKS Expo in Kansas City featured a group of girls who, to me, might have the most upside and growth potential of everyone in the showcase. These girls showed flashes of brilliance with some youthful missteps along the way, but they made sure to keep playing through it, which is what really counts. I think this squad will definitely be significantly better this upcoming season and future seasons due to their innate instincts for the "intangibles" of the game.    Kate is a solid scorer and a great communicator on the floor. She plays best on the wings, but more importantly, she understands how to get to her spots on the court where she's most comfortable and can inflict the most damage. Kate can free up space on the court with her ability to comfortably shoot from distance. She runs the floor well, so she tends to pull the defense in her direction, allowing guards some wide-open lanes to drive through. Kate is the type of player who makes everything easier for her teammates.     Macyn is a good on-ball defender, plays tough, and has good overall fundamentals on both ends of the court. She doesn't need much room to work on offense; she seems to excel in limited spaces. If she had to play basketball in a phone booth, she would give you "2 Deuces & a Quarter and still make change".     I believe Mya has the most growth potential at the showcase. She has long arms, quick hands, and quick feet. She has good lateral movement on defense, and her vertical leap seems like it could measure pretty high. She's got handles, scoring ability, and doesn't mind battling with Bigs for rebounds on occasion. She knows how to play the passing lanes on defense, and her on-ball defense is nothing to sneeze at. Although she's very good already, she's a bit reserved and very unselfish. She tends to play in the background and cater a bit, even though she can probably take over a basketball game by herself.     Riha is really good at making sharp, quick moves to the basket. She has a very deceptively quick first step, and she doesn't seem to mind a lot of physicality in her game.     Elin has quick hands, probably even quicker hands than she thinks she has. It is not a good idea to dribble the ball right in front of her; she's gonna take it from you. Elin has solid overall mechanics with her posture as she dribbles. A posture that seems comfortable with her handles, which leads me to believe she has strong potential @ PG.     Jayla does a good job of keeping her eyes on the ball and the person she's guarding at the same time. She knows how to position her body on defense to do this, and it makes her a turnover threat on defense at all times.     Olivia is the type of player who will dictate momentum shifts for her team. She is persistent with creating turnovers, recovering loose balls, and is very unselfish as a player. She can create a spark for a team at the end of quarters and at the beginning and end of a half to catapult her team on an important run. These are the kinds of runs that win not only games, but championships.
