Before the holiday break, I had a chance to witness Bishop Carroll and Wichita Northwest. Although Bishop Carroll had a dominant victory over Northwest, 47-17, there were 3 guards who skill-wise either displayed a very complete game, or showed some dangerous potential in areas that could improve. Here is your new year Scouting report on them:

Excellent on-ball defender who excels in the passing lanes. She is pesky and active with her hands on that end. Avery is really persistent at getting to the basket and is always looking for her angles to get there. As the primary scoring option and leader of her squad, her passing might be her most impressive skill. She can see plays develop and pass react quickly to them. She also sets extra screens to create more of those openings for her teammates. She communicates very well on the court to boot, which makes her a very well-rounded player and difficult to game plan against, plus a playoff nightmare this season.

Brooke has a deceptively quick first step. Her first step going left might be a little faster than her right, but it's something to take note of when game planning against her because she can get to the rim in 2-3 dribbles easily from the top of the key.

Aubrey's overall ball-handling ability is even better than she probably thinks it is. She made some nice moves against Bishop Carroll's tough defensive press to get across halfcourt with ease. In hindsight, I would've liked her to handle the ball a little more, considering she got to the FT line and was successful from there when she did. She does tend to favor her right hand more, but with her bringing that left hand in more often, she will be extremely tough to stop on a more consistent basis and get triple the amount of free trips to the charity strike.
