The All About the Girls Holiday Hoops is a solid, well organized tournament giving a lot of teams the opportunity to showcase during the holiday period. The tournament pays homage to key figures in DMV basketball with different divisions honoring their names. Some notable names are the late James Nichols who had a huge impact on how the DMV club scene is ran these days and Saladin Reese who was the king of youth development in the DMV grassroots basketball. The division that holds dear to me is the Terrence Butler Jr division named after my son a division one athlete that I lost two years ago to suicide and is the reason I started covering basketball in the first place. After two days of competitive basketball here are some players whose stock has risen and a couple of newcomers to the fold.

Samantha executed a tricky Shamgod staggering the defender and went into a one dribble pull up jumper that was a thing of beauty. She then knocked down a couple of three pointers and created space with her step back jumper. She made her mark in the second half of the game against Francis Scott Key.

Taliyah had a nice pump fake and drive down the baseline leaving the defender stuck at the three point line watching her go in for the score. Her fake was effective because she showed that she could knock down the three pointer earlier. She ran the floor well beating the defense in transition for the catch and finish.

Rylie showed a nice touch nocking down several shots from beyond the arc. She also showed the ability to score in the paint using her body and fakes to finish the drop step nicely. She was always a threat when she got the ball since she was able to score both inside and out.

Valerie benefited from well designed plays and execution as she dove in for the catch and finish. She used her body nicely sealing well inside for entry passes and rebounds. She slipped the screen nicely slitting the defenders for the drive and finish. She had a good streak scoring 10 point in the second half against Annapolis. She is a newcomer to the PGH staff.

Mckenzie is a newcomer that attacked the boards on both ends and was especially effective on the offensive glass where she was able to score on the putback. Defensively she pressured the ball and made plays stripping the ball away from the ballhandler and taking it down for the score.
