The first Lady Panther holiday classic kicked off at PVI this week, and it was a fun two days of basketball. There were a handful of public vs private school matchups, and most of these games came down to the wire. I felt like the guard play was outstanding, and I want to highlight the best off guards I saw during the two days.

[player_tooltip player_id='644092' first='Abby' last='Beddis'] plays exactly the way you expect an experienced senior to play. Abby does all the little things well. Her off-ball movement is fantastic, and a lot of the entry passes she made inside were right where they needed to be. She hit a few players on back-door cuts, and she showed some nice hands on defense. Abby's best skill is what she does as a knockdown shooter, and she hit a handful of threes. She has good size, and I love the range she shoots with.

[player_tooltip player_id='443620' first='Madison' last='Smith'] brings a lot to both ends of the floor for Archbishop Spalding. She is an active defender with a high motor and great strength. Madison shot the ball well for Spalding and knocked down a couple of tough threes. She hit a long-range buzzer-beating three at the end of the third quarter, and she can put the ball on the floor and force her way to the bucket. She acts as a secondary ball handler, and she is everything you want out of an off-guard.

[player_tooltip player_id='749390' first='Savannah' last='Martin'] is the type of role player you can fit into any team. If you can defend and shoot at a high level, you will find yourself playing at the next level, and Savannah does both well. She has a quick motion on her jumpshot, and she does well as a mover without the ball. Savannah had a couple of excellent box outs, and when Steward wanted to pick up Lightridge guard Mikayla Bowe full court, Savannah took that challenge, face guarding her the way up. She hit a lot of big threes, and I loved the energy she played with.

[player_tooltip player_id='1220023' first='Jalyn' last='Childress'] shot the ball well on both days and hit some timely shots against Steward. Jalyn has great range, and she is one of the more consistent shooters in NOVA. I like what she brings defensively as a POA defender, and she has good length to guard multiple positions. She had a few nice blocks or shot-altering plays at the rim in a close Lightridge win.

It felt like this Bishop O'Connell Georgetown Visitation game was stuck in the mud on day 2. Bishop O'Connell was missing [player_tooltip player_id='474543' first='Carly' last='Sweazie'], so they needed someone to step up, and [player_tooltip player_id='1574826' first='Sienna' last='Bhide'] did that in a big way. Both offenses were struggling, and Sienna broke this game open with her own 8-0 Run. Sienna is a terrific shooter with nice range. She showed that she can get hers off the dribble, and O'Connell ran two plays for her on back door cuts, which she converted on. She made some nice plays on defense, moved the ball well, and had clutch free throws to seal this game.

PVI doesn't have a true PG, so they ask a lot of players to handle the ball, and Sravya is one of them. She makes her living as a shooter, but she has developed into a much better overall offensive player. In both games, PVI played, she got to the rim and hit some floaters. She is always a reliable shooter and a high-IQ player. She may be this team's second-best player right now on a PVI team that's streaking.
