Holiday Hoops: Juniors make noise in North Georgia

Several juniors stood out with their play in holiday hoops action around North Georgia this week. Some names may be familiar, others may be new, but each of these players made big impacts for their teams with their performances on the court.    Rosene made plays all over the court for Franklin County. She handled the ball for the majority of the game and distributed the ball well to her teammates on the break and in the half court. Rosene showed good patience and good decision making with the ball in her hands. She helped open the defense up herself knocking down a couple threes, with one coming down the stretch in a close game that she made from three feet behind the line. Roses rebounds the ball very well for a guard.     [player_tooltip player_id='1239563' first='Nykhia' last='Johnson'] '27 Shooting Guard   Johnson was on fire in the first half from three point range making four before intermission. Nikhil also scored getting out on the fast break, as well as getting to the basket and scoring against Habersham's zone defense. Johnson got to the free throw line often and made the most of her opportunities there. She was a threat with the ball every time she had it and did a nice job picking and choosing when to attack.     Mak is an excellent shooter from deep and proved that once again against Hart County knocking down multiple threes. Mak also did a nice job scoring off the dribble and converting a lay up off of a well timed back cut. Gosnell contributed on the boards playing bigger than her size hauling in a couple offensive rebounds for the Lady Raiders. Gosnell also got her team extra possessions by causing tie ups and jump balls. Mak plays hard is not afraid of contact or physicality. Gosnell shot the ball well from the free throw line.     Jackson knocked down timely baskets as Habersham tried to claw their way back in the game after a slow start. Jackson scored from three point range twice, both times hitting shots from the corner. Jackson also had a nice drive left where she pulled up and hit the short jumper. Jackson was active on defense taking a charge and applying ball pressure to the opposing guards.     Underwood did a good job using her size against a smaller Franklin County team. She was particularly effective on the offensive glass where she was able to grab three offensive rebounds and convert three quick put backs. Underwood did a nice job rebounding for the Lady Raiders on the defensive end also, where she used her long frame to block and alter shots. Daytona handles the ball very well for her size and brought the ball up and initiated the offense herself several times.
