The 2029 Class Watch List was updated this week from 71 players to 161 players. The Watch List will likely change to a ranking after the completion of the regular basketball season.

The 2029 Class will always be special to me because it is the first class that I will get to evaluate from freshman year through their senior years of high school.

Congratulations to the following Memphis area players that were added to the 2029 Watch List. Freshman have to start over when they arrive on the high school level. The are no longer the upperclassmen they once were at the middle school level. Most times, they have to proved themselves to make the team, to get any playing time and of course, to be in the starting line up.

The following players I have personally watched. I'm looking forward to learning about more freshmen as the season continues.

Versatile Guard/Forward. I first saw Courtney during the Fall League season. Arlington travelled to Harding Academy for a game and that gave me my first opportunity to see her play with her high school team. She started the game against Harding. She is a very active player that hustles and rebounds out of area. She does a good job of using her length to deflect passes and get steals. Her versatility allows her to defend in the paint and on the perimeter. She can score with her back to the basket with a turn around pull up and off the dribble. After 6 games, she is averaging 8.8 points and lead in rebounding with 8.2.

Athletic Forward. My first time watching Layla was very early in the season at the Niki McCray-Penson Classic. Layla is about 5'11, quick off the floor, rebounds out of area and can block shots. She can play with her back to the basket with a turn around pull up and has a soft touch around the basket.

3 Point Shooting Forward. My first time watching Casey was very early in the season at the Niki McCray-Penson Classic. She is about 5'10 and stretches the floor because of her 3 point shooting and attacking ability from the high post area. She has the versatility to use her length and athleticism to defend in the open court.

Rebounding Post and Space Eater. She has played in 7 games. She is at least 6'3, towers over everyone else on the floor and runs the floor very well. She came off the bench during the game I attended at Harding Academy. She was able to get touches, shots off and rebounds around the block area.

Long Rebounding Forward with a quick first step. Hope has played in 8 games. She was in the starting line up for the game I watched against Harding Academy. She does a lot of her work around the block, gets touches and rebounds. She is averaging 4.5 points per game.
