There were plenty of guards on display for the many college coaches in attendance and the home state players from Georgia did not disappoint. These guards were key to the success their teams had in tough games against very good competition. Each one stood out among their peers and garnered well earned attention.

Millie had an impressive game against a very good team in Ryle (KY) who bolstered a deep rotation of talented guards. Millie did a nice job both on and off the ball for Whitefield. She was very efficient scoring as usual, both from the perimeter where she is one of the state's best shooters, and attacking the basket on the break and in the half court. One play in particular saw Newman put it in another gear with the ball at half court and accelerate quickly to basket and finish with her left hand. Newman is consistent and dependable. She is not going to force bad shots or waste a possession on a bad pass. She plays with a very high IQ and will be a very solid player in college.

Chambliss hit big shots in the game versus Ryle when her team needed them. She knocked down jump shots from the perimeter, the baseline, and had one play in transition where she pushed the ball quickly up the sideline and took the angle on the baseline initiating contact and then converted a tough finish off the glass. Chambliss has good size. She is strong and moves her feet quickly and very well. She also showed experience on the ball never getting sped up and playing at her speed. Her ability to initiate the offense allowed Newman more opportunities to score.

James is a very skilled offensive player with a lot of versatility. She played with controlled aggression getting to the rim and into the paint against a physical South Shore team. James was not afraid of contact and continued attacking the basket all game long. James has very nice form on her shot and can hurt opposing teams from beyond the three point line. She also did a nice job getting to the elbow and midrange for her shot. She rebounded the ball well for her size and did a nice job applying pressure on the ball on defense.

McCall's ability to create shots for teammates in transition, along with her knack for scoring makes her a dangerous opponent for Hillgrove. She is surrounded by a talented group of players and she distributed the ball well. McCall can also score herself. McCall looked her best pushing the ball on the fast break getting to the basket and scoring or finding a teammate spotting up for three or cutting to the basket. McCall defended the ball very well and was not afraid of the physicality in the game.

Jackson can put the ball in the basket there is no doubt, but her preparation before she gets the ball is a big reason why. Jackson has great movement off the ball, she is in constant motion for Hillgrove on back cuts or running off of screens. She squared up her shoulders and feet to the basket very well and when the ball got there she did not hesitate about what she would do with it. No indecisiveness, she just got downhill driving the ball or pulled up and shoot if the space was there. Jackson's experience and leadership will be counted on down the stretch by the Lady Hawks.

Austin gave South Forsyth a big, much needed offensive spark against Ryle finishing with 12 points. She knocked down multiple threes, one from the corner and another on a step-back three from the top of the key on a pick and pop play with [player_tooltip player_id='991134' first='Carib' last='Morris']. Austin handled the ball really well and also made some very nice passes in the game. She helped rebound inside against Jayden McClain and played solid defense for the War Eagles. Austin could be the key player alongside Morris to help fuel a run in the state playoffs.
