I have said this in previous articles and it held true this past weekend at Peach Games- Millie gets better every time I see her play and I have been watching her since she was in middle school. She was more a facilitator for Whitefield Academy this past season in high school when I saw them play, but did a great job picking a choosing her spots to score. I always come away thinking she should the ball more whether it is in AAU or scholastic ball. She was able to do just that with

(whose stock should be through the roof with her play at Peach Games and EYBL Session One) running the point and allowing Millie to play off the ball more. Newman was much more aggressive offensively and as a result she scored a lot of points. The game on Sunday against
Winners United
had several top ranked players in the state playing and Millie could have been named player of the game with her efforts in the second half. She is an excellent shooter, but the majority of her points came around the basket. She scored on the break and on offensive rebounds and put backs, as well as breaking down defenders off the dribble and scoring at the rim, drawing an and one on a big play late in the game. It was also good to see her being one of the vocal leaders on a team full of other power four recruits.

Millie had an impressive game against a very good team in Ryle (KY) who bolstered a deep rotation of talented guards. Millie did a nice job both on and off the ball for Whitefield. She was very efficient scoring as usual, both from the perimeter where she is one of the state’s best shooters, and attacking the basket on the break and in the half court. One play in particular saw Newman put it in another gear with the ball at half court and accelerate quickly to basket and finish with her left hand. Newman is consistent and dependable. She is not going to force bad shots or waste a possession on a bad pass. She plays with a very high IQ and will be a very solid player in college.

Entering high school, at 6 foot tall is one thing, but Newman has the skill and work ethic to take her places. She has a hungry attitude of a competitor! She communicated heavily with her teammates on the given team at the showcase. Great leadership from a freshman. She gave us a glimpse of her future as she would take off in transition and finish with contact at the basket for the and one.
